Which of the following bonds has the longest bond length?

Select one:

A. C-N

B. C-P

C. C-As

D. C-Sb

Solutions

Expert Solution

Firstly you should know what is a bond lenght???

Suppose when two atoms namely, A and B a compound AB

So over here A and B bonded to each other forming AB, both A and B have their nuclei at a certain distance from each other, thus we can say,Bond length or bond distance is the average between nuclei of two bonded atoms in a molecule. Now we should understand that bond length is inverse of bond strength.

As, bond strength is all about, that more the electrons participate stronger the bond formed, but as bond length is inverse of bond strength it means that shorter the distance between the nuclei of the individual atoms stronger the bond formed and vice versa.

Now coming back to your problem,

BONDING BOND LENGTH

C-N 1.47 ()

C-P    1.84 ()

C-As                                            1.98 ()

C-Sb                                             2.20 ()

That means, C-Sb has the longest bond length also among all will have the weakest bond.

Cheers.
