Give your own example of how microevolution can happen (include the 4 mechanisms in your answer). What is an adaptation and how is it different from a mutation?
Gene frequency change that can occur in a small population within short periods of time is called microevolution. Pesticide resistance, herbicide resistance, and antibiotic resistance are all examples of microevolution by natural selection. It can occur in a population by
Mutation,
migration,
genetic drift, and
natural selection. As all these mechanisms can affect gene frequencies in a population.
Enterococci which are the subdominant members of the human gastrointestinal microbiota. It is generally harmless in healthy individuals. But in elderly and immune-deficient patients it causes endocarditis and a wide variety of other infections. But often acquires antibiotic resistance through the exchange of resistance-encoding genes like plasmids carried on conjugative transposons.
Adaptations are changes or processes of changes by which an organism or species becomes better suited for its environment whereas a mutation is an alteration of the DNA sequence.
