Nuclei of the same mass number but different Z are isobars. (1)
Calculate the bonding energies per nucleon for the isobars
boron-12, carbon-12, and nitrogen-12. (2) In which of the terms of
the semi-empirical binding energy formula do these binding energies
differ, calculate the differences.
Potassium-40 has a half life of 1.26*10^9 years, decaying to
calcium-40 and argon-40 in ratio of 8.54 to 1. if a rock sample
comtained no argon when it formed a solid but now contains one...
A radioactive sample has a certain number N of unstable nuclei
that are emitting 4.5 MeV gamma rays with a half-life of 1.5 hours.
If the rate of radioactive heating of the sample due to these
decays is 13 watts, how many unstable nuclei are initially in the
sample?

A muon at rest decays into an electron, an anti-electron
neutrino, and a muon neutrino. After the decay, the electron has a
total energy of 52.85 MeV and the anti-electron...
an electron goes from a Betatron accelerator with energy 5 Mev
into Copper barrier.
calculate :
1- at which distance inside the barrier the electron will stop
?
2- as a resultant to this reaction if you detected an emission
of a X-Ray , what do you call this rays ?and what it's emitted
ratio from electron energy ?

Is Atomic Mass and Atomic Weight the same terms? Or is Atomic
mass and Mass Number the same terms?
On the MCAT Kaplan books it says that atomic mass and mass
number are the same thing but online and other chemistry textbooks,
atomic mass and atomic weight are the same thing.
Can someone please clarify which two terms are the same thing or
are they all different? I really need help to make sure I
understand this for the MCAT.
Calculate the binding energy per nucleon for each of the
following nuclei. (Use the table of atomic masses as
necessary.)
(a) 2H

(b) 14N
(MeV)
(c) 23Na
( MeV)
(d) 32S
(MeV)
Describe the difference between kinetic and thermodynamic
stability of nuclei and how the two terms affect the stability and
abundance of the atoms on earth.
Nuclear binding energy and fusion a) Using Einstein’s
energy-mass equivalence, calculate the energy in MeV corresponding
to one atomic mass unit u. b) Now, consider the fusion process of a
deuterium nucleus and a proton into a Helium-3 nucleus: 2 1H +1 1 H
→ 3 2He (i) Given the masses of the nuclei M( 2 1H) = 2.014102 u
and M( 3 2He) = 3.016030 u, calculate the mass defects of the 2 1H
and 3 2He nuclei in...
