3. How many mL of 4.25 M HI will be needed to Neutralize 187 mL of 4.57 M Mg(OH)2

Solutions

Expert Solution

for neutralization reactions the number of equivalents /milliequivalents of acid must be equal to those of base.

Here the base is diacidic base. Thus milliequivalents of base = V(ml) x M x 2

                                                                                                                = 187 x 4.57 x 2

the milliequivalents of HI which is monobasic acid = V(ml) x M x 1

                                                                                            = V x 4.25

Equating and calculating for volume = 402.16ml
