Explain within participants design and matched participants design

Explain within participants design and matched participants design

Solutions

Expert Solution

Within participants design:

It is an experimental study. In this experimental study same participants will act as control group and experimental group. Some experimental studies will have two experimental groups and no control group. Then also same participants will works for two experimental groups.Same person will receive two treatments.Readings will be taken after each and every treatment.

Advantages:

  • Same participants working for both experimental groups. So there is no difference between participants natural abilities. Therefore no chance to confounds from participants.
  • Number of participants will be decreased.

Disadvantages:

  • Fatigue effect.Participants may get irritation about experiment.Because they are working as two groups.
  • Participants can understand goal of experiment results they behave in experimenter desirable manner

Matched participants design:

It is an experimental study. In this study same type of participants for both control group and experimental group or two experimental groups. In otherwords participants are different but their charecteristics are same.

Advantages:

  • No chance to fatigue effect
  • participants can't estimate the goal of experiments like within participants design
  • No chance to confounds from participants natural abilities because participants charecteristics are same

Disadvantages:

  • Number of participants is high
  • Finding same charecteristic persons is tough job
