Write a detail note on the duties and liabilities that are imposed on the professional engineers, by the “Code of Professional Ethics”, as approved by the Pakistan Engineering Council, to maintain, uphold and advance the honor and dignity of the engineering professional in Pakistan.

Pakistan Engineering Council has laid "Code Of Professional Ethics " also called Pakistan Engineering Council Code Of Conduct to define the duties and liabilities of engineers in Pakistan.

The duties and liabilities of engineers are defined in various articles.

Article 2 of Pakistan Engineering Council Code Of Conduct deals with the duties and liabilities of engineers to maintain, uphold and advance the honor and dignity of engineering profession in Pakistan.

It states that a member shall -

1. Uphold the ideology of Pakistan : Ideology of Pakistan is based on the ideology of Islam. Engineers in Pakistan must follow the teaching of Islam like honesty, loyalty , passion for the profession etc. Engineers must not act beyond the areas of prohibition as defined by Islam like fallacy etc. Engineers must act within the prescribed ways of conducting their profession by Islam.

2. Be honest, impartial and serve the country, his employer, clients and the public at large with devotion : Engineers in Pakistan are desired to be honest and should be impartial i.e. equal and unbiased to their profession. They must be performing their duties with devotion and courage to their country, employer and clients.

3. . Strive to increase competence and prestige of engineering profession : members of the engineering profession must increase the competence and prestige of the profession by conducting new researches, doing innovations and inventions. This helps to raise the level of competition with other countries and raise their prestige among others.

4. Use his knowledge and skill for the advancement and welfare of mankind : engineers in Pakistan are supposed to use their knowledge of the profession to create such utilities and product with new researches and innovations which can be used for advancement in the present scenario. And also it can be used for the welfare of mankind.

5. Promote and ensure the maximum utlislzation of human and material resources of Pakistan for achieving self- reliance : engineers in Pakistan must try to efficiently and effectively use all the human and material resources by putting them into the creation of new and useful utilities, so that the country becomes self-reliant i.e. self- dependent by utilizing its resources ti maximium extent.

6. Not sacrifice the national interest for any personal interset : engineers in Pakistan are desired to give preference to their nation' s interest over their personal interest. They must not for their personal interest sacrifice the nations naterest. Like selling the techonology of producing electricity through the waste material which is discovered by an engineer in Pakistan to any other country for earning huge chunks of money for himself, sacrificing the national interest, which could have been of great use to the nation in waste disposal as well as electricity generation if the engineer had not opted to sell it to the other nation. They must give preference to national interest.

The above are the duties and responsibilities of Engineers in Pakistan to maintain, uphold and advance the honor and dignity of engineering profession in Pakistan as descibed by Article 2 of Pakistan Engineering Council Code Of Conduct.
