Describe how each sociological perspective explains deviance.
The different sociological perspectives explain deviance;
According to the Social Strain theory, the typology of deviance is generally based on two criteria:
(1) a person’s adherence to cultural goals and his motivations
(2) a person’s attaining of his or her goals based on his belief
Thus according to this view people in the pursuit of widely accepted social values and goals turn to deviance.
According to the Structural Functionalism view Deviance helps in distinguishing between acceptable and unacceptable behavior by drawing lines and demarcating the boundaries.
According to the conflict theory; due to social, political, or material inequalities within a social group deviant behaviors results in order to change the circumstances and overcome atrocities.
According to the Labeling theory, individuals become deviant as a result of the application of a deviant label; they adopt the label and exhibit the behavior, action, and attitude that is associated with the label with which they are identified.
According to the biological theory because of their biological makeup individual deviates from social norms.
