what is the difference between 2d and 3d drawing of the dipole equipotential contours?

what is the difference between 2d and 3d drawing of the dipole equipotential contours?

Solutions

Expert Solution

dipole equipotential contours :- are the surfaces drawn enclosing the +ve q or -ve q charges at which potential on every point of the the surface is constant and electric field at the surface of equvipotential surface is always in perpendicular direction of electric field at that point

Now in 2d dipole equipotential contours are repensented by closed circles or ellipses around charges which become more and more linear as they approch center of dipole

While in 3d dipole equipotential contours are repensented by closed spheres or ellipsoid around charges which become more and more planar as they approch center of dipole.

Two equvipotential countours in 2d generally circles never cut each other While in 3d case also two dipole equipotential contours spheres never cuts each other.

The radius of equipotential circles approches infinity as we move towards center of dipole. In 3d also radius of equipotential spheres approches infinity as we move towards center of dipole
