How does the economy and political climate effect social institutions including schools and medical providers/hospitals? What impact does the effect have on populations within all social classes. Apply theory to justify your answer
According to the conflict theory, the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that the political and economic make-up of the country would favour the majority while it would impact the minority people adversely. This is also true in terms of racial, religion, ethnic, gender and socio-economic minorities. While some have accumulated advantage in terms of education, employment, housing, healthcare etc. many would struggle hard since they have an accumulated disadvantage. Thus, the type of political ideology, the type of culture and the type of economic setting would favor the majority in getting opportunities and preferential treatments while many others in the society would struggle hard to get quality education, housing and healthcare due to the expensive system that’s in place. Although structural functionalism that suggests that the society is a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability, it only justifies the inequalities present by suggesting that they should learn to live with that.
