Molecules CH3CH2CH2CH2OH and CH3CH2CH2CH2NH2, in the absence of any other molecules, can interact with each other via non-covalent interactions that include the following

Dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonding, van der Waals interaction

Charge-dipole, hydrogen bonding and van der Waals Interaction

None of the above

Hydrophobic effect, hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole interaction

All of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

To explain the type of bonding we first look at the functional groups in both the compound

CH3CH2CH2CH2OH : In this OH is functional group.

CH3CH2CH2CH2NH2, : In this molecule NH2 is a functional group.

Hydrogen bonding : When hydrogen is bonded to high electronegative atom then partial positive charge develops on H and when such H comes in contact with another high electronegative atom the there is electrostatic bond form between H and that high electronegative atom , the bond is called H- bond.

In given molecules there are N and O and also H bonded to them and so there is H bond present

Diopole diple intereaction is there due to partially polar bond.

Hydrophobic effect is there due to presence of long carbon chain. When long carbon chain comes in contact with another carbon chain then there is repulsion and it is called as hydrophobic effect.

So the correct answer is :

Hydrophobic effect, hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole interaction
