Art by Eugene Delacroix’s “Christ Asleep during the Tempest”
1How is the work inspiring?
2In what way is it meaningful?
3Does it possess lasting value to you, personally? State why or why not.
The work is inspiring in many ways. One of the most important ways it inspires is that one needs to be calm in times of trouble leaving the task to the divine providence. It suggests that one shouldn’t think of negative when problems arise, instead stay calm and think of a solution. Finally, one shouldn’t be afraid when one’s friends are around as they would work towards saving each other.
The way Jesus sleeps while there is a storm reminds us of our losing faith in times of trouble. He wanted his disciples to have faith on him but they were disturbed and afraid of the storm thus lost their faith. It’s all about holding on to the faith until the last minute and surrender ourselves to God.
This painting has a personal meaning in my life. In times of great struggle I hurry and make mistakes. I lose my trust on people who are my well-wishers because of my lack of emotional instability. I need to stay strong and work with people and get help in order to overcome from the trouble.
