Who was Rick Rescorla and what can we learn from his risk assessments during 9/11?
Rick Rescorla was a British-born and became an American who was worried about the safety of New York City's World Trade Center (WTC). He was born on May 27, 1939 and was died on September 11, 2001. He saved 2,687 lives on September 11 or 9/11 during the attack.
From Rick Rescorla's risk assessments during 9/11, we can learn that we have to engage the communities - it’s not just about the scientists. The communities must be at the table to affect our decision-making in a very core way. We can learn how to engage a group of people for the noble cause and how to save the crowd of people from the critical condition. And we can also learn how to face inevitable conditions and how to get rid of such type of conditions. Especially we can learn how to be brave.
We can learn much more from the song 'Men of Harlech' which was sung by him at the time of attack:
"Men of Cornwall stop your dreaming,
Can’t you see their spear points gleaming?
See their warriors’ pennants streaming,
To this battlefield.
Men of Cornwall stand ye steady,
It cannot be ever said ye
for the battle were not ready
Stand and never yield!"
