Task Description Task No. Must Follow    Expected time(days)

Reserve the meeting room                 A                 None                                      1

Order the marketing material              B                     A                                        9

Brief the managers                             C                     A                                        2

Send put the customer emails            D                     C                                        3

Burn sample DVDs   E                      C                                        3

Load the new software F                      D, E                                    2

Do a class rehearsal.                           G                     B, F                                    1

Now you do:

(A) Using the data from the table above, draw a Gantt chart to help Flow Associates organize the meeting. Chart should be neat and labeled.

(B) Using the data from the table above, draw a PERT diagram. Then identify the critical path. The diagram should be neat and labeled.

Note: you can create these charts using MS Project. If you do not wish to use MS Project, you can use MS Excel to create Gantt chart and MS Word to create PERT Diagram.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The charts are of representation purpose only. Understand the charts and draw in Excel and Word applications neatly.

(A) Gantt Chart:

Modified the Gantt Chart with corrected value for task B

(B) PERT Chart:

In the PERT Chart,

  • The circles represent the nodes, which are milestones or events
  • Directional arrows represent dependent tasks that have to be completed sequentially.
  • Dotted lines represents tasks that do not required resources.

In the diagram, the tasks are labeled as A, B, C etc., But, we can write the complete task name in the diagram.

Critical Path: The path which takes the project to longest duration to complete. From the PERT chart, it is evident that the path 1 --> 2 --> 3 --> 8 is the critical path which takes 11 days of longest project duration.

(Solving with excel workbook) A large corporation must reserve a hotel room block for its annual stockholders' meeting. Based on history, the number of attendees will be normally distributed with mean 4900 and standard deviation 1000. Rooms can be reserved now for a cost of $150/room. If the number of rooms reserved is less than attendance, additional rooms must be reserved at a cost of $250/room. If the number of rooms reserved is greater than attendance, the corporation must indemnify...

Birthday problem. Suppose that people enter a room one at a time. How people must enter until two share a birthday? Counterintuitively, after 23 people enter the room, there is approximately a 50–50 chance that two share a birthday. This phenomenon is known as the birthday problem or birthday paradox. Write a program Birthday.java that takes two integer command-line arguments n and trials and performs the following experiment, trials times: Choose a birthday for the next person, uniformly at random...
