There are various types of IT systems which comes in all shapes and sizes . They are categorised to assist us in evaluating the appropriateness of their handling of business risk.They are categorised into 5 types.They are :

1.)Transaction Processing System ( TPS)

2.)Office Automation Systems (OAS)

3.)Management Information Systems (MIS)

4.)Decision Support Systems (DSS)

5.)Executive Support Systems (ESS)

6.)Process Control Systems (PCS)

Different kinds of IT Systems are mainly developed to cater to the different needs of a Business.

1.)Transaction Processing System (TPS)

a.)Transaction Processing System is one of the types of IT System which supports business operations.

b.)It is mainly used to support the handling of the business transactions of an Organization .

c.)Transactions are involved in almost all industries and according to the type of the industry,the transactions seems to be different from one another.

d.)TPS are mainly found in the lowest level of the organisation's hierarchy.

We can see this type of IT System in Supermarkets,Banks etc,.

Example : Automated Teller Machine (ATM),Airline Reservations etc,.

2.)Office Automation Systems (OAS)

a.)Office Automation Systems is another type of IT system which is widely used and supports business operations.

b.)It is mainly used to support the tasks of the office with the help of information technology.

c.)It is also known as Enterprise Colloboration Systems.

We can see this type of IT system inside the Offices(Both the clerical level and managerial level activities) are achieved through this system.

Example : Email,Microsoft Powerpoint etc,.

3.)Process Control Systems :

a.)It is one of the types of IT systems which supports business operations.

b.)In Process Control Systems , information is fed to the computer system and it takes control of the whole system without the intervention of a human.

We can see this type of IT system in manufacturing organizations

4.)Management Information Systems (MIS)

a.)Management Information System is one of the types of IT system which supports managerial decisions making.

b.)It is mainly used for collecting,storing and processing information which has been taken from multiple different sources and compiles them into reports which are necessary for the purpose of decision-making in business organizations.

c.)These type of system produces these types of reports in yearly basics,quarterly basics etc,.and as per the wish of the higher authority.

d.)This system also comprises of both the present and past performance statistics of an organization.

We can see this type of IT system in almost every company,organization etc,.

5.)Decision Support Systems (DSS)

a.)Decision Support System is another type of IT system which is an interaction-based IT system and which supports managerial decisions making.

b.)It is mainly used by the managers or higher officials in any organization in making decisions for every complex problems .

c.)It is achieved by making use of decision models for analyzing the data into forms.

We can see this type of IT system in Larger Organizations where senior manager need to arrive at a solution or a decision for a problem.

6.)Executive Support Systems (ESS)

a.)Executive Support Systems is one of the types of IT systems which supports managerial decisions making.

b.)It is mainly used to provide the information which has been gathered by the lower level managers in an organization to the senior managers to come to a decision .

c.)This system portrays the information in graphical representation like charts etc,.By this way,the performance,activites,achievements,targets can be known by the senior level managers.
