Hematocrit: 35.4 % BUN: 51 MG/DL albumin/blood: 2.2 g/L pH: 7.32 Urinalysis: Specific Gravity; 1.036 Protein: 500 mg/dl Why does the patient have edema? what type of cells would be found in his urine? why the shortness of breath? why a low hematocrit? why is blood slightly acidic? Why an elevated BUN? Diagnosis?
NAME OF INVESTIGATION | PATIENT VALUE | REMARK |
Hematocrit value BUN Blood albumin : Blood pH : Urinalysis : Specific gravity Protein |
35.4% 51mg/dl 2.2g/l 7.32 :1.036 500mg/dl |
Low hematocrit level elevated bun level low albumin level slightly acidic blood slightly elevated specific gravity elevated urine protein level |
1. Edema on the legs is due to elevated level of protein in the urine inaddition to kidney failure.
2. Albumin will be the most common protein leaked during the filtaration of urine.
3. One of the sign of proteinuria is shortness of breath if it is associated with kidney failure. The main reason is the kidney cannot synthesis erythropoetin as a result bone marrow will prduce fewer rbcs and also excessive protein loss along with red blood cells may result in depletion of blood hb with resultant shortness of breath.
4. During conditions like renal failure, kidney cannot synthesis erythropoetin as a result bone marrow will prduce fewer rbcs with resultant low hematocrit value.
5. Urine is slightly acidic beacuse the kidney's function to acidify urine is lost during kidney failure
6. If kidney is not able to remove the end products of protein metabolism that is urea properly, then it may lead to an excess level in the blood. This may ultimately increases the blood urea nitrogen level.
7.Acute Kidney failure
