The virus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads easily enough to have caused a global pandemic hard to contain so far. Effective containment needs to be informed by some key epidemiological factors. One such factor is called the “serial interval” and it represents the “duration between symptom onsets of successive cases in a transmission chain.” That is, if person A (infector) transmits the virus to person B (infectee), then the serial interval is the amount of time between...

In late 2019, a novel coronavirus was causing infections in China. The virus had close virological characteristics to the coronavirus that caused SARS (SARS-CoV) and was named SARS-CoV-2. Even though the SARS-CoV-2 has been less fatal than SARS-CoV, SARS- CoV-2 has been much more infectious. Shortly after the Chinese outbreak, other countries also began reporting cases. The evolving epidemic was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020. In early February 2020, we undertook...

BACKGROUND:Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)is an enveloped, (+)-sense, single-strandRNA virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). The coronavirus family is named for the crown-like spikes on the outer surface of the virus and includes viruses that infect many species of animals, including camels, cattle, bats, and cats. The SARS-CoV-2 virus appears to have “spilled”out ofbats, its primaryanimal host, and into humansin December of 2019 in Wuhan, China. COVID-19 symptoms appear 2-14 days after exposure and include fever, dry cough, shortness of...

what is this organism? Long ago, people thought that I was a virus but I am small bacterium. Although I can't be stained by Gram stain, I am considered as Gram negative. I always live inside host cell and all attempts to grow me on artificial culture media have been failures. I can be grown on egg yolk and cell culture. When I grow inside the host cell, I am seen as inclusion body. I can spread through direct contact...
