thee are three basic ideas of
relevance. This is the second of ARG conditions by Govier. The
different forms of relevance are explained as follows:
- A statement A would be positively
relevant to a statement B if and only if A and it’s truth would be
in favour of B. Example people graduating from universities, on an
average, would he having muscles greater salaries than people not
going to universities.
- Negative relevance occurs when
statement A would be negatively relevant to a distinct statement B,
if A would be counting against B. Example:experts notice the
increase in obesity in children due to the increase in fast food
consumption. Fast food may be part of a healthy diet. The first
statement is negatively related to the second one,
- A statement would be referred to as
being irrelevant if the first statement is not positively or
negatively related to the second statement. Example: it’s new. It’s
improved. Both the statements are not positively or negatively
related to one another.
