How does C4 photosynthesis differ from C3 photosynthesis?
In C4 photosynthesis, CO2 is captured in the mesophyll and transferred to the bundle sheath cell where photosynthesis occurs
CO2 capture and photosynthesis occur simultaneously at night in C4 plants while in C3 plants they occur simultaneously in the day
C4 plants use more water for photosynthesis than C3 plants
In C4 photosynthesis, CO2 is captured in the bundle sheath cells and transferred to the mesophyll cells where photosynthesis occurs.
A. In C4 photosynthesis ,CO2 is captured in the mesophlyll and transferred to the bundle sheath cell where photosynthesis occurs. In C3 plants photosysnthesis is completely happens in mesophyll cells, but in the case of C4 plants carbon fixation and photosynthesis is happens split as mesophyll and bundles sheath cells.First fixation of carbon will be done in mesophyll cells and the calvin cycle will be done in bundlesheath cells.Primary acceptor of CO2 is PEP and the first stable product is OAA in C4 plants, RuBP is the CO2 acceptor and the first stable product is PGA in C3 plants. In C4 plants there willb e a special leaf anotomy is called kranz anatomy is present. Photorespiration also present in C3 plants.
OptionB. Incorrect, Photosynthesis is generally occurs in day time for C4 &C3 plants.
Option C.Incorrect,More water is needed for C3 plants
Option D.Incorrect, In C4 plants CO2 capturing will be done at mesophyll and the photosynthesis will be in bundlesheath cells.
