Active aging denotes the quality of life attained in older age.

When a person is old , physically and mentally sound he is said to be actively aged.

When the persons start growing older they are in need of counselling, health care and money. By providing proper health care at low cost with employment oppurtunities the old people can restore their self respect and positive well being.

Some of the determinants of active aging are

  • Gender
  • Culture
  • Physical environment
  • Health and care
  • Costs
  • Mental wellbeing

GENDER - Gender discrimination is prevalent in many areas of the world. In case of women they take care of everyone in family with a caregiver role so they may have health deprivation in older age.In case of men they involve in antisocial behaviours like smoking , drug addiction, alcohol abuse leading to diseases .

CULTURE- Many cultures keep their old age adults with them in home for example INDIA.They take care of the old age adults health , economic and physical needs .

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT-Indulge the older people in physical activities like walking, cycling and many more which can improve their activity and reduce the risk of illness as they are active most time which will boost their immunity level.

HEALTH AND CARE- Women are in need of vitamin D and calcium when they start aging because of menopause .In case of men they need mental support and care as they are more dependent when becoming old.

COSTS- Costs should be managed by government for the medication as older people may have chronic diseases or disability . Rehabilitation centres should help the people to regain his health..

When the rate of diseases start to decline in old age people with sound mental and physical health that is ACTIVE AGING.
