Topic: Style of Loving-Romantic Relationship in interpersonal communication:

I have selected this topic as it is the most important aspect of our existence i.e. interpersonal communication and love-romantic relationships. The human beings develop relationships through verbal and non-verbal communication. “Non-verbal communication is what you communicate via your body language and it is based on your attitude, values, principles, and beliefs. It contributes 93% to your communication and other may believe your non-verbal behavior if they contradict your verbal communication.”

Interpersonal Communication: Interpersonal relationship includes communication, which occurs through your words and through your tone, voice, or expression. Verbal communication is used to send a precise message. Non-verbal communication involves any other messages you send or receive through your body language, eye contact, and way of talking.

Emotional intelligence: Emotional intelligence is critical to define your social and personal interactions. The first step is to be self-aware and assess your strengths and limit your actions in a confident manner. It affects your social behavior and your ability to develop healthy relationships. It also helps you to interpret other people’s behavior and define their emotions. The EI decides your reactions in a socially appropriate manner and reacts to emotions of the people.

Trust:

Interpersonal communication helps you develop trust. Trust is the most important component and consistently same behavior can improve the level of trust and it assures same behavior in future too. Drawing upon your quality of work and the qualities you have in common can improve your level of trust. Trust is also critical in professional relationships.

Understanding and Identity:

It creates a unique identity for you. The way you communicate defines your personal relationship and you're the overall public image is created. It also communicates a lot of informal messages the way you react and behave in a particular situation or react to people.

Relational stages:

According to Altman and Taylor theory of relational development. There are 4 stages of a relationship as follows:

  • The first stage will include verbal and nonverbal communication
  • The second stage will move to a friendship where you reveal more personal details about each other.
  • The third stage might be a close personal relationship or romantic involvement where trust and willingness to communicate increases.
  • The fourth stage is the more nonverbal and based on feeling and behavior.

It is important because every human being goes through these stages to develop a personal or a professional connection. It is also important to build a connect by having a personality which has a good mix of all the above factors in a balanced way.

Further, to discuss the romantic loving relationship, let’s discuss the following 6 styles:

  • Eros: Physical love, a person is more attracted to the physical aspects of a person. This love is initially very intense but will later tone down and both might lose their interest.
  • Ludus: Game-playing love: This category of relationship is when both take love casually and as a game. It is usually in a short-term relationship with no long-term intentions. These people are highly self-sufficient and will not share any details about themselves.
  • Mania: Possessive love: These types of lover are over possessive to the point of being a maniac. They get hurt easily and are seeking validation through their love relationships.
  • Agape: unselfish love: They are unconditional lovers who are more givers than a taker and will put their needs secondary to their partner's needs.
  • Pragma: Practical love: They seriously weigh all options before finalizing a date. They use all empirical data and plan every action. They will clearly have a definition for the age, sex, profession they want to date.
  • Storge: Compassionate love: This type of love is based on shared goals, values, viewpoints. It is a stable dependable love without any unnecessary drama or overwhelming emotions.

I think my love relationship is Agape as I am always a giver and emotionally ready to give to the needs of my partner.
