Lemon Motors next door does not offer free credit but will give you $1,000 off the list price. If the rate of interest is 10% a year, which company is offering the better deal. Please help with an excel.

Solutions

Expert Solution

K.Mautos-

Interest rate = 10% per year = 10%/12 = 0.83% per month

We will discount each month's payment by dividing amount to be paid ($3500) by (1+0.83%)^n {n is no.of month).

Following excel shows amount, which is derived by dividing payment by discount factor. Discount factor =(1+0.83%)^n {n is no.of month).

29 3500 1.271 2754.005

Sum of all payments = 20,000 + 92,610 (sum of all payments discounted of 30 months) = $112,610

Lemon Motors- Payment to be made = 110,000 - 1000 = $109,000

So, Lemon Motors is better option.
