The poverty rate is the ratio of the number of people (in a given age group) whose income falls below the poverty line; taken as half the median household income of the total population.

Median income divides the income distribution range in half, one with residents having incomes above the median, and the other hald having income below the median.


Queens has th eowest poverty rate at 11.6 percent which means only 11.6 percent of the population in QUEENS has income below 32490.

Bronx has the highes tpoverty rate probably beavuse it has lowest educated population which is 80%.Consequently it has the lowest median income at 38085 $

Manhattan and staten island have similar median incomes and near poverty rate as they also have higgest educated population at 89 and 88 percent respectively.
