Most people associate the term diversity with the word cultural, but diversity is not just cultural. Many other characteristics such as values, beliefs, economic level, race, ethnicity, age, disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, lifestyle choices, marital status, education, political affiliation etc. are also involved. Diversity is not a simple matter, yet it is not difficult to deal with, if you are fair to people and keep an open mind. When you look closely at, and think about, diversity, it provides wonderful opportunities because people from varying groups bring with them special knowledge, experience and value. Even though people have differences, they have many traits in common.

a-What are the advantages and disadvantages of workplace diversity? Discuss at least three advantages and three disadvantages.

b-Can diversity help companies attract and retain employees? Discuss.

c-How does diversity help companies compete, achieve their goals, make profit and grow? Discuss.

(a) There are many advantage and disadvantage of workplace diversity.Some of them are:

Advantage:

  1. Diversity in the workplace always increase the productivity of the employees.
  2. The organization in diverse in nature always earn more profit as compare to non-diverse organization.Because diversity help the employees in there growth.
  3. When you promote the diversity in the workplace.it gives you societal benefits like help in to fill the job shortage at the local,regional , national and regional level.
  4. Employees are attract the workplace.where diversity are more offer.

Disadvantage ;

  1. It create the multiple layer of administrative management to hoodwink.
  2. Some company employees facing the communication barrier.which make productivity more challenging.
  3. Workers in diverse environment often fear the outsourcing or the offshoring.
  4. Trust issue is decrease when occurs the diversity increase.

(b) Having a employee of different background help the company culture to promote there values and mission.In various research and studies had found that diversity always help the company to attract and retain the employee.According to the report of the national institute for public relation-2017 "Half of the Americans said that the diversity and inclusive workplace is a important factor for them.while searching for the job".The companies who have more diversity in the organization are likely to attract and retain more number of employee as compare to non diverse company.Diversity in company can include fair pay,Genuine feedback , culture of the company, leader of the company etc.play a important role to attract the employee,Some of the points.which strongly promote why company need diversity to attract the employees:

  • Diversity make a positive impact on the employees.which lead to profitability for the organization.
  • Diversity help the company to make better place for the employees.
  • Diversity help the company to feel there employees like a family.

So, by these some points.we can say that diversity help companies to attract and retain employees.

(c) Following are the some ways that says diversity help companies to compete, achieve their goals, make profit and grow :

  • Diversity help the organization in recruitment.which will help them to grow there team and manpower.
  • Better relationship help the employees to come together and mutually achieve the targets.
  • Diversity help the employee to make a more productive team.
  • Effective problem solving.
  • With the help of diversity we make the strong work culture in the company.
  • Diversity help the company to motivate there employees.which will help to generate more revenue as compare to non diverse company.

So,by these factors we can say that diversity help the company's growth and make more profit.

(d) Following are the some suggestion to minimize the differences and to make employees sensitive regarding the differences arising from diversity:

  • Employees have the right to make the business decision based on the legitimate.
  • Company's have to develop the program to deal with the cultural diversity issues.
  • Train the employees on the acceptable workplace behavior.
  • Train the employees about the harassment and discrimination.

To make the employees more sensitive about the arising the differences in diversity

  • Educate, Encourage and develop the diverse team of the employees.
  • Communicate about the employees value in the company.
  • Implement consistent and ongoing learning help the employees to get sensitive about the diversity differences.

So, by the help of these points we can educate and reduce the differences and make employees sensitive about the diversity differences.
