What area is defined as the GFCI Zone in a kitchen? What is the maximum distance permitted along a wall at the counter work surface in a kitchen between receptacle outlets?
Ans : GFCI is an outlet which detects the variation in the electrical current and cuts down the power from that outlet so as to prevent injuries and also to avoid shock factor . They are also known or called as shock insurance . If the water enter the outlet the GFCI shuts down that outlet and it can be tuned on again once its safe . Areas where these GFCI zones are installed in the kitchen consists of all the major appliances like microwave circuits , refridgerator circuits, electric stove circuits , dishwasher circuits , garbage disposal circuits , sink , outlet on walls , behind wet areas etc . All the receptacles which are located near these things should have GFCI .
The maximum distance permitted along a wall at the counter work surface in a kitchen between receptacle outlets is 4fts(1200m) between receptacles other than that is 2 fts(600m).
