what are some factors that a manufacturer should consider when determining whether to test a sample or the entire population to ensure the quality of a product?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Factors that a manufacturer should consider when determining whether to test a sample or the entire population to ensure the quality of a product:

(i) Testing the entire population involves time, budget constraints and also depends on the actual population size.

(ii) In case the testing is destructive testing, only sampling is the method because if we do destructive test on the entire population, we will be left with nothing after the test.

(iii) In the case of infinite population, testing of entire population is out of question. For example the height of a person of age 20 years. The population is entire world which is unmanageable.

(iv) Availability of qualified experts on testing the product is limited and so, only sampling is possible.

(v) Testing of a sample has more reliability than the testing of the entire population because of the fatigue as well as boredom of the testing person.
