What do you think the long-term ramifications will be for other countries without the US contributions to WHO

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • WHO was established by UNITED NATIONS in 1948.
  • WHO has 194 members including countries and states.

there have been a conflict between WHO and USA since April 2020, concerned with the covid - 19 pandemic. USA stated that it would cease to fund the WHO because there is a conspiracy related to the coronavirus and WHO being an unbiased a rational body is supporting and favoring CHINA. though after retaliation and foreign leaders statement US was ready to pay the amount but recently president Donald Trump again mentioned to stop the payment to WHO.

USA is the major contributor of WHO and contribute the maximum share compare with other members.

now supposing USA stop contributing to WHO then the other countries will be affected as follows-

WHO(WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION)-

  • WHO would face a funding crisis and ultimately the share would be increased for the member countries
  • WHO runs various medical assistance program around the world and vaccination like polio, malaria and prevention of poor people against medical threat, some of these program would have to be canceled.
  • there would be less spending on research and development field due to curtailing the funds
  • underdeveloped countries would suffer more around the world.
  • per country share of contribution would be increased for the future contribution.
