Packaged foods and drinks can come in different containment materials like cans,bottles,jars,etc,upon which all of its informations are provided.
Product informations like manufacturer address,packed date,expiry date,best before use date,ingredient list etc
Among the product details given,more significant informations are related to 'Nutritional Facts Label'
It is mandatory to have a Nutritional Facts Label on packaged foods and beverages.
One can decide how much amount should be in taken by analysing calories per servings.There are some terms in food labels like Serving per container,Serving size,Amount per serving calories, Daily value etc,that may not be familiar to everyone.
Serving size,calories and nutritional informations are labelled at the top and Daily value usually comes at the bottom section as a footnote.
SERVING PER CONTAINER AND SERVING SIZE:
Serving size shows the amount of in take usually using familiar like 1 cup or 1 piece etc.
And it is not the reccomendation of how much should be eaten.
Serving per container indicate total number of serving size.
CALORIES:
It is the measurement of how much energy one will get from a serving size.
Using the amount of calory per serving we can decide how much servings to be taken in.
2000 calories per day is advisable as a general guide.Requirement varies depending on age,sex,height,weight,physical activity etc.
NUTRIENTS:
According to the nutrient amount or percentage is given ,we can use the label to support our personal dietary requirement.
Be conscious about the amount of nutrients that can lead to adverse healthy conditions.
Prefer less amount of nutrients like saturated fat,sodium,added sugars etc and go for more dietary fiber,vitamins,calcium,iron,and potassium.
% OF DAILY VALUE
It is the % of the daily value for each nutrients in a serving of the food.
Helps to determine whether serving of food is high or low in a nutrient.
5% or less than 5% DV is considered to be low and 20% or more DV is considered to be high.
