Hi,

First let's understand the importance of ethics in counseling:

Ethics are important in counseling, as they are a means to protect the welfare of the client and counselors by clearly outlining what is appropriate

The responsibility a counselor for the quality of the work they do with clients is marked by eight principles:-

  • acting according to professional standards of competence
  • maintaining confidentiality
  • being open and explicit with clients about the counselling process
  • remaining within the boundaries of the counselling role
  • engaging only in activity in which they have ability and in which they are able to act independently and objectively
  • ensuring that they receive adequate supervision of their counselling work
  • continuing their own personal and professional development as counselors
  • establishing, maintaining and monitoring a clear counselling contract

Discussing how one's personal life will come in the way of counseling ethics is very subjective and lengthy but to make a jist out if it.

Every individual comes from a different religion, race, ethnicity, family, background , environment , country

All of these factors teaches some or the other value to the child since his her childhood hence these factors can act as a limitation or hinderence in counseling ethics where it can create feelings of mistrust or feelings of non acceptance within the student and therefore he /she doesn't open up so well while communicating with the counselor. There is a feeling of guilt or fear also that runs within the child
