This article discusses aggregate demand and supply and also multiplier effect. As one firm lays off employees, it results in lower demand in other sectors too, from those employees. This results in further layoffs and cost cuts and this effect multiplies. The aggregate demand goes down far higher than it wouldve only from those laid off employees.
