Medication with strength 1 g/2 mL has been ordered at 10 mg/kg. The patient weighs 197 lb. How much should be administered? (If less than 1, round to the nearest hundredth; otherwise, round to the nearest tenth.)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given

Weight :197lb (0.454*197=89.4kg)

Available :1g/2ml (1g=1000mg) therefore 1000mg=2ml

Order :10mg/kg

When 1kg=10mg

Then 89.4kg=??mg

Cross multiply and divide

=89.4*10/1

=89.4*10

=894mg

When 1000mg=2ml

Then 894mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=894*2/1000

=1788/1000

=1.788

As it is greater than 1 it has to be rounded to the nearest tenth =1.8

Ans:1.8 ml has to be administered
