Why is the ocean important for regulating global atmospheric temperature? Why are atmospheric winds and gyres important for decadal timescale changes? What processes affect this regulation in the ocean?
oceans absorbing solar radiation and releasing heat needed to
drive the atmospheric circulation.global atmospheric temperature
regulated by emitting most of water in the form of rain. one of the
greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide is important in atmospheric
temperatue, oceans regulate this by absorbing carbon dioxide from
atmosphere and store it for million of years.
oceans produce nearly 50% of oxygen in atmosphere and absorb more
than 50 % of carbon dioxide from atmosphere.
oceans cover 70% of earth's surface , they transport heat from
equator to poles. due to this weather patterns are
regulated.variability on time scale of 10 years or more is known as
decadal time scale variations, these are influenced by El-Nino ,
which are produced due to ocean temperatire and wind patterns.
ocean circulation patterns affect the ocean tempeture globally.
ocean wind patterns, evoporation, circulation, carbon storage and
many processes affect the regulation of ocean.
