Develop a minimum 1,050-word analysis of your decision-making process in which you include the following: for 2009-2019 Retrieve statistics on Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and on Real Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) by year for the last ten years. You can retrieve those statistics from internet sources including, but not limited to, the Federal Reserve of St. Louis's FRED web site, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) web site, or another credible source of your choice. Post these statistics in a single worksheet of an Excel® workbook and submit your Excel® file with your report. In your report, discuss the latest 10-year trends in both GDP and PCE.
Also discuss how the trends in GDP compare with trends in PCE. You are encouraged to include graphs of these statistics in your report; you could create the graphs in Excel® and copy them into your report. Retrieve statistics on the Effective Federal Funds Rate and on the Consumer Price Index: All Items Less Food and Energy by year for the last 30 years. You can retrieve those statistics from internet sources including, but not limited to, the Federal Reserve of St. Louis's FRED website, the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website, or other credible sources of your choice. Post these statistics in a single worksheet of an Excel workbook and submit your Excel file with your report. In your report, discuss how the trends in the Effective Federal Funds Rate compare with trends in inflation. If you took out a loan to pay for your "big-ticket" purchase, what was the interest rate on your loan? Were interest rates rising or falling at that time? Were interest rates relatively high or low at that time? You are also encouraged to include graphs of these statistics in your report.
Discuss the influence of any federal government or state government programs, such as tax credits or tax deductions for energy-saving/efficiency purchases, on your decision to make your last big purchase; or if government incentives did not factor into your decision, explain why not.
Develop conclusions about the economy's influence on personal and business decision-making relative to purchases of big-ticket items, investments, or other major purchases.

A Pullman local sports store is interested in consumer purchasing likelihood of WSU gear (1=not at all to 7=very much) before and after a win in football. A researcher picks 10 WSU students as the participants of the study. The data are shown below. Use alpha = .01 to see whether a win in football increases consumers’ likelihood of buying WSU gear.

A marketing researcher has heard that when kids are anonymous, they'll take more candy. To test this hypothesis, she brings 6 kids into a specially-constructed Halloween Lab with two rooms. Each room is identically decorated and contains a decorated front porch, a front door, and a doorbell. Behind the door is a confederate who will answer the door and offer a bowl of candy. The two rooms differ only in their lighting conditions. One room is light; one room is dark, the latter presumably leading to greater anonymity. She says, ok kids, I want you to go into each room and interact with the person behind the door as you would normally interact during Halloween. Ring the doorbell, say trick or treat, and then take some candy. So, the kids do this and the researcher measures how many pieces of candy they take. The data are shown below. Do kids take more candy under conditions that make them feel anonymous? Use alpha = .10.

Dark Room: 2 2 3 4 4 3

Facebook’s damaging effects on mental health have been widely reported in a series of studies – but could the social network be making us physically ill, too? Researchers found that people who spent time looking at other people’s Facebook profiles, felt real physical symptoms as sleep problems, weight change and muscle tension. Researchers interviewed 165 Facebook users, and found that people who were inclined to compare themselves to others felt more aware of physical ailments. It’s not that Facebook actually causes the symptoms in other words, but comparing onself to others perceived as ‘better off’ causes increased awareness of symptoms. Dr Bridget Dibb, Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology at the University of Surrey, said, ‘Comparing ourselves to others is not a new concept; however, with the rise of social media it is becoming a part of our everyday lives. ‘An entity like Facebook, with 2.27 billion active monthly users, has never existed before. The long term effect it has on individuals is unknown, but it is clear that comparison with others is associated with perceptions of ill-health.‘Users need to be aware of how they feel when they use sites like Facebook and recognize the dangers of comparisons in this context.’
