2. Marx and Mill both thought that there were historical forces blocking the full development of human freedom. How are their views of freedom (and secondarily history) different? What do Marx and Mill want people to be free from? What did each thinker think that freedom was for? You can refer more to Marx in the answer if you prefer. **

1) What happens to U.S. real GDP and the price levelin the short run, when a major trading partner enters a recession (i.e. experience decrease in their real GDP)? Assume that initially the U.S. economy is at its long-run equilibrium.
a.) What happens to real GDP and the price level, if a country enters a war and experiences destruction of its human and physical capital stocks? Assume that initially the economy is at its long-run equilibrium.
b.) Suppose an economy is experiencing a recessionary gap. Explain the state of the labor market during the recessionary gap. How would wages and the short sun supply curve change following the recessionary gap?

1. (30) True or False (explain your answer briefly. A simple
"true" or "false" without
explanation will get zero point)
a) (6 points) An upper stream manufacturing rm merges with another
downstream distri-
bution firm so as to engage in price discrimination. Such a
vertical merger will decrease all
consumer'swelfare.
b) (6 points) Two firms merge together, only if the transaction
cost must be reduced.
c) (6 points) Specic human capital is a barrier of vertical
integration.
d) (6 points). The benet of coordination gives rise to vertical
integration.
e) (6 points). Social welfare decreases after two firms merge with

DISCUSSION :
We have pointed out that the value chain will indicate many support areas that could be candidates for outsourcing. These are not essential functions (accounting, human resources, training, support technology, facility maintenance, security, phone call center, etc.) for the company and perhaps could be or cheaper and better by an outside firm.
a. Is this a case of "its just business" or is it unethical to outsource certain functions meaning you lay off long term employees that are specialized?
b. Would this be a good reason to outsource? What about the community you are located in?
c. Your thoughts if you are the CEO or top management in the firm?

Consider a standing person in the center of a large room. Approximate the person as a vertical cylinder of 1.8 m tall and 0.4 m diameter. Average surface temperature of the person is 33°C, and the emissivity of skin surface is 0.96. (a) Calculate the radiative heat transfer from this person. Neglect heat loss from the ends of the cylinder (b) What is the wavelength λmax where the maximum amount of energy will be radiated? (c) What region (primarily) of electromagnetic spectrum is the radiation calculated in b? (d) If a detector is available that can detect only in the wavelength range λmax ± 5 μm, what fraction of the total energy from the human being will this detector be sensitive to?

Please explain the archaeological record of "man the hunter," as we understand it; including the adaptation to life using bipedalism (defining it), the sexual division of labor (and why it occurred). Please explain two types of bias that feminist anthropologists identified in the "Man the Hunter" theory of human evolution: ethnocentrism and androcentrism. Define these terms and explain why and how they are biased. How can these biases provide an inaccurate picture of the diversity of gender roles and relations in various prehistorical societies? However, if we concentrate on "Woman the Gatherer," would we experience similar problems as we did in concentrating on solely "Man the Hunter?" Explain what is meant by this.

Write a script to play two-dimensional Tic-Tac-Toe between two human players who alternate entering their moves on the same computer.
Use a 3-by-3 two-dimensional array. Each player indicates their moves by entering a pair of numbers representing the row and column indices of the square in which they want to place their mark, either an 'X' or an 'O'. When the first player moves, place an 'X' in the specified square. When the second player moves, place an 'O' in the specified square. Each move must be to an empty square. After each move, determine whether the game has been won and whether it’s a draw.

Consider the Hospital scenario in the Allied Health Community. Describe the best solution to address employee retention and development. Why do you feel this way? Be sure to respond to at least two other students who have offered different solutions and evaluate whether the other solutions or approaches would result in the desired goal.
You are the administrator of a medium-sized hospital. The Director of Human Resources has been summoned to an executive team meeting in an effort determine why an unusual number of nursing staff leaving for other employment. During the discussions, the Director of Nursing provides her thoughts re- garding why the nurses may be less productive and why some are departing. She states that the primary reason is salaries/benefits. A charge nurse thinks the reason might be working conditions, especially involving patient load in the various nursing units. Overall morale is low, which is adversely affecting pro- ductivity. This has also resulted in some patient quality outcomes discovered by the Continuous Quality Improvement team.
During the discussion, the Senior Director of Admissions shares some experiences she had with a for- mer employer--that the nursing staff tended to remain longer with the employer based on good working conditions, specifically in the area of learning new skills, obtaining additional certifications, licensure, and cross-training for other areas not usually assigned. She feels that these measures result in higher reten- tion and patient quality outcomes.
After the meeting, you meet with the Director of Nursing and
Human Resources Director, who is also in charge of all training and
development for the hospital. As the administrator, you consider
developing
a small group to explore the feasibility of providing more skills
development and training to your current nursing staff.
