You are working on the Operating Room and the trauma alert goes off.
You respond to the ER to provide support. Once in the ER, you receive
report that an 89 year old male is coming in with a self-inflicted GSW
(Gun Shot Wound) to the head. You listen to the radio traffic between
the ER and ambulance to get an idea what kind of surgery you need to
set up for and what will be needed as far as lines and fluid. Here is
the report:

HR: 121
B/P: 60/45
Saturation: 93%
Patient is intubated and non-responsive. Right pupil is fixed and
dilated. Paramedic also states there is a large extended family headed
to the ER. The patient lost his wife of 60 years 1 week ago and left a
note stating that he is too heartbroken to go on. The patient and
family arrive. The neurosurgeon discusses that their father's
potential outcome, even with surgery, is not good. The family still
insists that the neurosurgeon complete the surgery.

1. What are the ethical and legal issues in this case study. Be
specific and support your response with references

Once you have the patient in the room and you are prepped and ready
for surgery, the phone rings. You receive word that the patient signed
DNR orders two days ago.

2. As the OR nurse what are your legal and ethical issues now? Was the
patient of sound mind when he signed this order? Do you honor the DNR
or the family’s wishes? Explain and support your response.

Create a program that accepts in a string of 2 or more words. The program then copies the entered string changing the alpha characters into digits representing characters with acsenders, descenders and nonascender/desender characters; uppercase characters should be treated as lower case. The characters with descenders (gjpqy) should be replaced with a 1. The characters with ascenders (dbfhklt) should be replaced with a 2. The rest of the alpha characters should be replaced with a 3. The converted string should then be displayed. The program should also prompt the user if they would like to enter another string. If they answer y or Y, loop back to the beginning of the program. If they answer n or N, exit the program. All user input should be validated. The word string should have at least one space in it. The Yes or No input must be y, Y, n or N. Do not create an SDM for this lab.

4. The owner of specialty coffee shop wants to study coffee purchasing habits of customers at her shop. She selects a random sample of 60 customers during certain week, with the following results:

The amount spent was ? = $7.25, S = $1.75

Thirty-one customers say they definitely will” recommend the specialty coffee shop to family friends.

a. At the 0.05 level of significance, is there evidence that the population mean amount spent was different from $6.50? (IS THIS RIGHT?)

H0:=6.50

H: doesnt equal 6.50

Population standard deviation is not given, sample size is large, using sample t confidence interval for population mean.

n=60

x=7.25

s=1.75

SE Mean=0.226

95% confidence interval=(6.798,7.702)

T=3.32

b. Determine the p-value in (a). (IS THIS RIGHT?)

P-Value=.002

Since P-Value is is less than .05 the null hypothesis is rejected.

c. At the 0.05 level of significance, is there evidence that more than 50% of all customers say they “definitely will” recommend the specialty coffee shop to family and friends? (IS THIS RIGHT?)

With a 5% significance level there is evidence that the population mean amount spent was different from the $6.50.

d. What is your answer to (a) if the sample mean equals $6.25? (HELP)

e. What is your answer to (c) if 39 customers say they “definitely will” recommend the specialty coffee to family and friends? (HELP)

f. Submit an excel file which clearly describes the data, intermediate calculations, and final results. Also submit a word file to provide explanation of each step while solving the problems. (HELP)

The following randomly constructed table requires that as part of your Critical Thinking Assignment you arrange the accounts into a well-labeled income statement. Make sure you label and solve for gross profit, operating profit, and net profit before taxes.

Using a 35% tax rate, calculate taxes paid and net profit after taxes.

Assuming a dividend of $1.10 per share with 4.25 million shares outstanding, calculate EPS and additions to retained earnings.

2. Explain why the income statement can also be called a “profit-and-loss statement.” What exactly does the word balance mean in the title of the balance sheet? Why do we balance the two halves?

3. CS Industries, Inc. began 2016 with retained earnings of $25.32 million. During the year, it paid four quarterly dividends of $0.35 per share to 2.75 million common stockholders. Preferred stockholders, holding 500,000 shares, were paid two semiannual dividends of $0.75 per share. The firm had a net profit after taxes of $5.15 million. Prepare the statement of retained earnings for the year ended December 31, 2016.

QUESTION 3

    1. A researcher wanted to study the effects of caffeine on ability to memorize a list of 16 non-related words. Additionally, the researcher was curious if extroverts or introverts would be better on the memory task and if caffeine would affect their performance differently. Given four equal conditions with 10 people in each condition, participants were either given a cup of coffee or not (depending on their condition). All participants had a 16-word list presented five times and their recall after a 3-minute delay was assessed. Given the following data summary, answer the following:

Part A

Hardwood Limited has an activity-based costing system with three activity cost pools: Processing, Setting Up, and Other. Costs in the Processing cost pool are assigned to products based on machine-hours (MHs) and costs in the Setting Up cost pool are assigned to products based on the number of batches. Costs in the Other cost pool are not assigned to products. Data concerning the two products and the company's costs and activity-based costing system appear below:

Activity cost pools:

Processing                        $12,200

Setting up                         $25,100

Other                                $17,700

Sales (total)                      $135,700                $98,000

Direct materials (total)       $61,700                  $31,000

Direct labour (total)            $52,200                  $45,800

Determine the product margins for each product using activity-based costing. Show your calculations.

Part B

At a recent staff meeting, Daniel Hamburg – the production manager – raised concerns that John Healy – the newly recruited management accountant – is not considering all manufacturing costs while calculating product costs under the activity-based costing system. While John was attempting to address Daniel’s concern during the meeting, Tang Chu – the CEO – stopped him as the meeting had to finish soon. However, Tang told John to prepare a report addressing Daniel’s concern, which needs to be submitted before the next meeting. Imagine yourself as John and prepare the report.

Your scenario: You are a member a small engineering firm with a staff of 8. Your team meets every Wednesday morning for a meeting to review projects and activities.Engineers provide updates on projects and discuss problems they are having; the boss throws out new project ideas, and everyone enjoys some social time, chatting about hobbies and families.

Frequently, these meetings run well over an hour and don't always get very much accomplished. What to do? Your employer, the owner of the firm, seeks you out because of your strong writing ability and asks you to solve a problem. These folks are all highly paid, and meetings that don't accomplish much are still costing the firm a lot of money...like the equivalent of one 8 hour day a week! (over 400 expensive man and woman hours a year)!

Your task:

1. Find out how to conduct effective meetings and write up a policy/procedure (i.e. directive) memo to the staff about how meetings will be conducted in the firm to be efficient and cost-effective. Consider as well what communications should/could be handled outside the meetings or in other ways. Here's a link to how to conduct a meeting that may be helpful! This is only one of many that are available to you just by searching.

2. Create a meeting agenda/minutes template for conducting and recording minutes...be creative and use the table tools in Word, NOT a template you find!!!!! Remember, you are creating the guidelines for the meeting rules YOU are setting.
