Frank’s Fine Furniture makes tables, desks, bookcases, and other office furniture. At the North California facility, they make tables. All parts of the table are purchased except for the tabletop that is fabricated at the plant. Tables are made to order for dealers who FAX orders into the sales department. Orders are processed from the order database on FIFO basis.
The first step in the process is to cut the top ¾ pressboard. It takes one worker 20 minutes to cut each top. Four workers work in the cutting work center each with his own cutting equipment. At the same time the plastic laminate that goes on top of the table (the finished surface) is cut from stock. There are four other workers each with their own equipment in this work center. It takes one worker 30 minutes to cut this material.
The next step is to glue the plastic laminate to the pressboard top. The contact cement is applied to the top surface of the pressboard and the bottom surface of the laminate. There is one worker who applies the glue to both surfaces. It takes him 5 minutes to apply the glue. After the glue has been applied the two pieces are lined up and pressed together. There is one worker who does that and it takes her 6 minutes to complete that step. After pressing together, the assembled top must be set aside for 30 minutes to allow the glue to dry. There is unlimited space in this drying area.
The finished tabletop is then attached to the leg assembly that is purchased from a nearby metalworking firm. It takes a team of two workers working together for 10 minutes to attach the leg assembly to the tabletop. There are two such teams in this assembly area.
Finally the table is packed and shipped by one team of two workers working together who take 4 minutes to pack and ship one finished table.

Problem Set 2: Two-way mixed design ANOVA (8 pts) Research Scenario: A researcher is attempting to determine the effects of age and sleep deprivation on a reaction time task. Participants (5 “old”; 5 “young”) in an experiment are given a computerized search task. They search a computer screen of various characters and attempt to find a particular character on each trial. When they find the designated character, they press a button to stop a timer. Their reaction time (in ms) on each trial is recorded (note, so the lower the number, the faster the time). Participants each underwent all three sleep conditions across three days - after having 0, 4, or 8 hours of sleep (times were counterbalanced). The reaction time data for the 10 participants appear below. Using this table, enter the data into a new SPSS data file and run the appropriate test to assess whether sleep deprivation and/or age affect performance on reaction time. Remember that between subjects variables such as “Age” will be represented using a single column in SPSS. Within subjects variables such as sleep would be represented in multiple columns – one per level. Hint: for this data entry, you will end up for a total of four columns in SPSS.

The goal for this Project is to create a simple two-dimensional predator-prey simulation. In this simulation the prey are ants and the pred-ators are doodlebugs. These critters live in a world composed of a 20 × 20 grid of cells. Only one critter may occupy a cell at a time. The grid is enclosed, so a critter is not allowed to move off the edges of the world. Time is simulated in time steps. Each critter performs some action every time step.
The ants behave according to the following model:
Move. Every time step, randomly try to move up, down, left, or
right. If the neighboring cell in the selected direction is
occupied or would move the ant off the grid, then the ant stays in
the current cell.
Breed. If an ant survives for three time steps, then at the end of the time step (that is; after moving) the ant will breed. This is simulated by creat-ing a new ant in an adjacent (up, down, left, or right) cell that is empty. If there is no empty cell available, then no breeding occurs. Once an off-spring is produced, an ant cannot produce an offspring until three more time steps have elapsed.
The doodlebugs behave according to the following model:
Move. Every time step, if there is an adjacent ant (up, down, left,
or right), then the doodlebug will move to that cell and eat the
ant. Otherwise, the doodlebug moves according to the same rules as
the ant. Note that a doodlebug cannot eat other doodlebugs.
Breed. If a doodlebug survives for eight time steps, then at the end of the time step it will spawn off a new doodlebug in the same manner as the ant.
Starve. If a doodlebug has not eaten an ant within the last three time steps, then at the end of the third time step it will starve and die. The doodlebug should then be removed from the grid of cells.
During one turn, all the doodlebugs should move before the ants do.
Write a program to implement this simulation and draw the world using ASCII characters of “o” for an ant and “X” for a doodlebug or "-" for an empty space. Create a class named Organism that encapsulates basic data common to both ants and doodlebugs. This class should have a virtual function named move that is defined in the derived classes of Ant and Doodlebug. You may need additional data structures to keep track of which critters have moved.
Initialize the world with 5 doodlebugs and 100 ants. After each time step, prompt the user to press Enter to move to the next time step. You should see a cyclical pattern between the population of predators and prey, although random perturbations may lead to the elimination of one or both species.
