we will discuss the ethical considerations surrounding the forced containment of those who may become infected with the Ebola virus.

you will first play the role of a senior advisor to the President of the United States. He has asked you to assist him in persuading the American people that containment is ethical.

Provide the American people (i.e. class members) with your justifications for containment. You should persuade them to believe that containing their sick family members is ethical.

  • Ever wonder why a survey of the American population often has what seems like a very small sample size? 2000 people can tell us what the American population is thinking about. We have formulas to calculate an appropriate sample size for both estimation of the mean and estimation of the proportion. How do they work and why do we need so few to tell us what so many might be thinking?

I company is a large American company that makes computers. It controls approximately 65% of the market in the European Community. It refuses to share the patents and copyrights it owns for the operating system software that controls its computers and so thereby not allowing other manufacturers to make computers that are compatible with I’s computers.Would I company’s actions be in violation of Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union?

Would its actions be in violation of American anti-trust laws?

The LG Electronics is classified as one of the most sustainable companies in the world. Two leading research organizations in the world stated so: The Canadian Corporate Knights Magazine, mentioned in its 2015 annual list of the 100 most sustainable companies in the world; and the Swiss Agency RobecoSAM, in its annual sustainability report of 2015. The Canadian Corporate Knights Magazine lists the sustainability companies according to a set of sustainability criteria in specific industrial sectors, by focusing on the gold standard in corporate sustainability analysis and assessment. Accordingly, LG was chosen and awarded as the best company within home stuff and products category. So LG based on this list was able to reach a good rating of 51 for the year 2015, after being ranked 82 in the year 2014. The Canadian Corporate Knights Magazine selected the companies according to 12 quantitative indicators of performance and sustainability, including energy and water consumption in the companies’ operations, innovation, operational excellence, product leadership, employee, tax strategies, etc. With regards to the Swiss Agency RobecoSAM sustainability report of 2015, LG has been honored for its golden awards of the personal and electronic entertainment class. The Swiss Agency RobecoSAM working in collaboration with S&P index (Dow Jones) classified LG as one of the few companies that are leaders in sustainability and introduce changes in the field of sustainability in 2015. In addition, the Swiss Agency RobecoSAM uses the evaluation criteria for best sustainable companies that include financial aspects, innovation, supply-chain management, reduction of pollution, energy-efficient products, recycling, as well as interaction and engagement with stakeholders. The Executive Vice President of LG Electronics commented on this issue by saying: “We in LG believe that companies with the ability to think about the future and be proactive, adapt positively. We also believe that LG has the absolute need to provide a positive impression in preserving the environment as much as possible in continuation of our work to develop our products for our consumers and communities. We are proud of our praise and appreciation. " Questions: 1. Describe the main areas of sustainability for LG for both environmental, social and economic sustainability. 2. Give examples of the three sustainability areas for LG. 3. Explain how LG supports sustainability in these three areas. 4. Describe the main considerations related to the sustainability areas LG relied upon.

The reconciliation process May 31st revealed the following: of $3000 deposited over the month, the bank had not yet received the last deposit of $500 made on May 30th. The bank also collected $100 on a $90 Note Receivable plus $10 interest. Three checks had written for a total of $1000 had not yet cleared the bank. Furthermore, one of the checks written for $100 was incorrectly recorded by Co as having been $10. A deposit Co made for $50 was returned by the bank for Non-Sufficient Funds. Finally, the bank charged a $50 fee for the checking account.

A) Reconcile the cash balance per the bank with the cash balance per the Co for April.

B) Journalize the adjustments Co recorded on its books from the reconciliation.

The relationship between the amount of remaining carbon monoxide (CO) in an individual’s lungs and the time since that person last smoked a cigarette can be summarized using a linear regression approach.

Write down a simple linear regression model and the underlying assumptions. The following summary data was collected from 12 different smokers.

x = time since last smoked a cigarette (hours) y = amount of CO in ppm

n=12, x=1.88 sxx =25.8, syy =1805 SSE=877.4 Fitted regression line: ?̂ = ??. ?? − ?. ??? ?

(k) What is the residual at ?0 = 2.25 if the corresponding observed amount CO is

28ppm

(l) Estimate the mean amount of CO in the lungs for an elapsed time of 2.25 hours.

(m) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the true mean amount of CO in the lungs

for an elapsed time of 2.25 hours.

Please show all work.

  1. The water-gas shift reaction (CO + H2O à CO2 + H2) occurs in a series of two reactors. An equimolar mixture of steam and CO (stream 1) enters the first reactor. The product stream from the first reactor (stream 3) and an additional stream (stream 3) containing pure steam enter the second reactor. The fractional conversion of CO in the first reactor is 0.610, and the fractional conversion of CO in the second reactor is 0.790. The product stream has a water (steam) mole fraction of 0.210.

  1. Draw and fully label a PFD for the process.
  2. What is the fractional conversion of CO for the overall process?
  3. What is the ratio of the molar flow rate of stream 2 relative to the molar flow rate of stream 1?
  4. Put a box around the answers to the questions in b. and c. You will receive 5 points for answering with the correct number of significant digits.
