Vaccines are a controversial subject and recently have been
thrust into the
public spotlight. This was caused by the increase of
anti-vaccination activists
and outbreaks of contagious diseases, like measles. Although the
research
stating vaccines could result in autism was discredited and the
publishing
physician lost his license permanently, the myth remains, kept
alive on social
media.
Supporters say that vaccination is safe and point out that
illnesses, including
rubella, diphtheria, smallpox, polio, and whooping cough, are now
prevented by
vaccination and millions of children’s lives are saved. Opponents
say that
children’s immune systems can deal with most infections naturally,
and that
injecting questionable vaccine ingredients into a child may cause
side effects,
including seizures, paralysis, and death.
In your opinion, should parents vaccinate their children or not? To strengthen your argument, use yourobservations and experiences, and information from your research.
Pick one topic and develop a well-developed thesis driven essay with research from Gale: Opposing Viewpoints located in HCCS library database. The paper will be 750-1000 word essay. You will need a minimum of 5 sources. You will have two quotes per body paragraph. You should have for and against argument. MLA style: 12 font, times new roman, double-spaced. Must include parenthetical citations and a works cited page.

Part 2: Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test
Let us consider another hypothetical situation. The WHO wants to compare the mortality rates of children under the age of five years of underdeveloped and developed regions of the world. There were two independent samples of ten countries from each of the groups drawn at the same time, and the yearly mortality rates of children under the age of five years (per 100,000) inhabitants were reported (MRate1 and MRate2).

Question 1. What is the significance of resource pricing? Explain the meaning and significance of the fact that the demand for a resource is a derived demand. Why do resource demand curves slope downward? LO1
Question 2. What factors determine the elasticity of resource demand? What effect will each of the following have on the elasticity of the demand for resource C, which is being used to produce commodity X? LO4
a. An increase in the demand for product X.
b. An increase in the price of substitute resource D.
c. An increase in the number of resources substitutable for C in producing X.
d. A technological improvement in the capital equipment with which resource C is combined.
e. A fall in the price of complementary resource E.
f. A decline in the elasticity of demand for product X.
Question 3. Florida citrus growers say that the recent crackdown on illegal immigration is increasing the market wage rates necessary to get their oranges picked. Some are turning to $100,000 to $300,000 mechanical harvesters known as “trunk, shake, and catch” pickers, which vigorously shake oranges from the trees. If widely adopted, what will be the effect on the demand for human orange pickers? What does that imply about the relative strengths of the substitution and output effects? LO5
Question 4. LAST WORD Explain the economics of the substitution of ATMs for human tellers. Some banks are beginning to assess transaction fees when customers use human tellers rather than ATMs. What are these banks trying to accomplish?

You have been asked to experimentally determine the Calorie (1 Calorie = 1000 calories) values of various desserts. You realize that a combustion reaction is analogous to the digestive reaction occurring during metabolism and the amount of energy released from combustion will tell us how much nutritional energy we can expect from the food. You then need to apply the principles of calorimetry to measure the energy released by the desserts upon combustion.
After some research, you discover that calorimetry of combustion reactions is performed in an instrument called a bomb calorimeter, which is shown below. The name “bomb” refers to the inner chamber of the calorimeter that can withstand great increases in pressure.
1.What would happen to the coffee cup if you used it for a combustion reaction?
Hint: For automatic grading purposes, limit your answer to one word.
2. While using a coffee cup calorimeter for a combustion reaction, water in the reaction would ___________ ["not matter", "be a problem"] . This is because water ___________ ["would also need to be burned", "would absorb the energy from the reaction"] .
3.The main ingredient in the desserts you will be studying is sugar or sucrose. Look up the SDS for sucrose. Name one type of fire extinguisher should you have/use if the fire (combustion reaction) gets out of hand?
Hint: For automatic grading purposes, limit your answer to a single type of fire extinguisher. Do not include "fire extinguisher" or anything to that effect in your answer.

Johnson Company uses a job-order costing system and started the month of
March with three jobs in process. The cost of beginning work in process
plus the costs added during March are shown below:
Job #1 Job #2 Job #3
beginning work in process ..... $4,930 $4,970 $2,840
COSTS ADDED DURING MARCH:
direct materials .............. $3,400 $4,200 $4,600
direct labor .................. $5,000 $4,000 ?
Johnson applies overhead to jobs based on a percentage of direct materials
used. During March, Johnson completed both Job #2 and Job #3. Job #1 was
not completed by the end of March. Job #2 consisted of 1,700 units; some
of these units were sold during March. None of the units from Job #3 were
sold in March. Johnson Company's accounting records for March disclosed
the following information:
Work in process inventory balance at March 31 .......... $15,880
Actual overhead cost for the month of March ............ $ 8,500
Cost of goods sold for March ........................... $11,830
Finished goods inventory balance at March 31 ........... $18,870
The cost of goods sold number above represents the cost of goods sold for
March after the overhead variance has been closed for March.
Calculate the number of units from Job #2 that were sold during March.

Read the following scenario - I ask each of you to make up a parody (funny imitation, like Weird Al does) of the song "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.
One of you comes up with a GREAT version and as our next class project we decide to create a corporation, with each of us as equal shareholders. We work together to see if we can produce and post a financially successful video. Next thing you know we are the biggest thing since "Gangham Style" (currently at 3.4 BILLION hits, don't ask me why!). We quickly exceed 100 Million hits for which we earn a penny a piece. So we now have $1,000,000 to split 35 ways and that number is only going to increase.
SAD NEWS: We get a letter from the lawyer for Thicke and Williams saying we have violated their clients' intellectual property rights and they want two-thirds of the money we've made (and will continue to make) off the song. We don't want to share!
1. Construct an approximately 125-word argument (it can be more, but much less would not be good) as if you are representing Thicke and Williams, clearly outlining what right they have to "our" money (be sure to talk about the specific area of law, how their right was acquired, what protection they are entitled to, and what damages they could be entitled to).

The Lawnpoke Golf Association (LGA) has established rules that manufactures of golf equipment must meet for their products to be acceptable for LGA events. BatOutaHell Balls uses proprietary process to produce balls with mean distances of 295 yards. BatOutaHell is concerned that is the mean distance falls below 295 yards, the word will get out and sales will sage. Further, if the mean distance exceeds 295 yards, their balls may be rejected by LGA. Measurements of the distances are recorded in DATA. At ∝ =0.05, test the no action hypothesis that the balls have a mean distance of 295 yards.
Yards 293 275 280 290 273 306 287 301 309 285 274 282 294 283 304 297 294 290 283
A.The test statistic is 3.003 and the critical value is 1.734, therefore the test statistic is greater than the critical value of 1.734 and the null hypothesis is rejected. The distance is not 295 yards
B. The test statistic is 1.297 and the critical value is 1.734, therefore the test statistic is less than the critical value of 1.734 and the null hypothesis is not rejected. The distance is about 295 yards
C. The test statistics is 2.238 is greater than the critical value is 1.734, therefore H0 is rejected. It is reasonable to assume that the distance is not 295 yards.
D. The test statistic is 1.908 is greater than the critical value is 1.734, therefore H0 is rejected. It is reasonable to assume that the distance is not 295 yards.
