Step 1

During World War I, European aircraft manufacturers designed and produced numerous types and variations of aircraft. Germany-over 600 designs, 72 production models. Great Britain-over 300 designs, 73 production models. France- Under 300 designs, 38 production models. The United States however chose to produce only one land based aircraft, the DH 4, Jenny and a couple of models of Curtiss flying boats. While the European model of production probably led to more advances in the aircraft industry, the United States model led to greater production capability by all manufacturers producing the same model.

Which war time production model do you think was best? The European model which called for many different models from many manufacturers or the American which called for one standardized aircraft? As before, please explain your choice.
