The Human Resources (HR) Department of a certain college has asked all employees who were employed in 2018 to fill out a survey in December 2018. Three items on the survey were: “Your dental expense in 2018”, “Are you in a family with at least three other family members?”, and “Your medical expenses in 2018”. The manager of HR has randomly selected a sample of 169 surveys. Found that the sample average dental expense is $1600 per person with the sample standard deviation is $500. 70 of them are in a family of at least three other members. Also, the sample average medical expense is $2,450 per person and the sample standard deviation is $700.

A. Define a buffer system and describe the three major buffer systems of the body fluids. Explain how a buffer system adjusts when either a strong acid or strong base is added to an aqueous solution (describe the relevant chemistry. Explain how modifying the rate and depth of ventilation can permit respiratory compensation for a metabolic acid-base disorder (describe the chemistry).
B. Compare and contrast the physiology of the human sexual response in the male and the female, including stimuli, nervous regulation, and effector targets. How are they similar and how are they different? How does this relate to reproductive developmental homology?
C. Discuss the structure and function of the juxtaglomerular apparatus. What factors determine GFR? Why is it so important to keep GFR stable? Explain in terms of nephron function. Briefly describe the autoregulatory mechanisms used in the kidney to maintain GFR on an ongoing basis.
D. Discuss the different mechanisms of reabsorption in the renal tubule. How are valuable nutrients reabsorbed from the filtrate? How are ions and water reabsorbed? In which parts of the renal tubule do these events occur? Distinguish between obligatory and facultative reabsorption.

Book: The Story of Psychology
Discussion: Personality Psychology is essentially the study of traits. Personality psychologists want to know “What accounts for the differences in individuals and in their behavior?” and laypeople want to know “How can I correctly predict others’ behavior and make judgments accordingly?” Is human nature determined from within or from without? Are our minds and behavior the products of inner forces, or are we shaped and prodded into thought and action by the stimuli of the environment? This is, once more, the classic nature versus nurture question. These debates have always been a part of psychology, since Plato, and likely always will be. Most psychologists now lean toward the interactionist view of nature/nurture question- that most everything a person does results from an interaction between their personality and the situation they happen to be in.
Questions/ Discussion: Discuss how we came to this conclusion, specifically when it comes to personality, citing both historical thought and empirical data on both biological and environmental influences.
Can we now predict behavior based on personality? How could a layperson go about trying to do this?

The world post Covid 19 has created the concept of social distancing which will impact on the way we do business. Online purchasing is expected to increase because it will reduce human interaction and contribute to the reduction of Covid 19 related illnesses. However, online purchases have created contemporary legal issues which may be a novel for most legal systems in several Caribbean Countries.
You are required to critically discuss the concept of online purchases and the various methods used in online transactions with supporting case laws.
10 marks
Secondly, critically discuss FIVE (5) CONTEMPORY CASE LAWS related to online purchasing at the International Level, focusing on the judgements handed down in those cases and most importantly how do you think that will impact on the Caribbean online purchaser.
20 marks
Finally, bearing in mind your answers above; what do you think (your opinion) that Caribbean Governments can initiate via its legal systems to enhance and protect online purchasers legal rights?

This week we were introduced to the "normal curve," also known as the bell curve. Many human factors are normally distributed, and your task for this week's discussion is two describe two examples from your own life. I'll start with my own example, which is the amount of sleep I get per night. My average is about 7 hours, and the distribution of sleep time over many nights most likely has a normal distribution. Some nights I get less than 7 hours, some nights I get more. However, the frequency of data becomes less and less, the farther it is from 7. In other words, something like 10 hours of sleep is extremely uncommon, as is only getting 4 hours. On the other hand, 6.5 hours is relatively common, as is 7.5. If I graphed the amount of sleep I got over the last 100 nights, it would approximate the shape of a bell curve.
So, what are two examples from your own life?

Q6 The weight of adults in USA is normally distributed with a mean of 172 pounds and a standard deviation of 29 pounds. What is the probability that a single adult will weigh more than 190 pounds?
Q7 Along the lines of Q6 above, what is the probability that 25 randomly selected adults will have a MEAN more than 190 pounds?
Q8 Along the lines of Q6 above, an elevator has a sign that says that the maximum allowable weight is 4750 pounds. If 25 randomly selected people cram into the elevator, what is the probability that it will be over the maximum allowable weight?
Q9 The human gestation period (pregnancy period) is normally distributed with a mean of 268 days and a standard deviation of 15 days. If 25 women are randomly selected, find the probability that the sample will have a mean of less than 260 days.
Q10 Along the lines of Q9 above, a random selection of 25 woman (volunteers) are put on a special diet and the sample mean is less than 260 days. Does it appear that the diet has an effect of gestation period? What could make you more “certain”?
