  • Remember – there may be COMPANY offered outcomes/rewards AND/OR there may be outcomes/rewards that the individual expects. Each person has two rewards.
  • There are NO punishments or “no rewards” that are permissible responses for outcomes/rewards cell.
  • Be sure to watch the MyMedia Expectancy Theory Individual Activity prior to doing the activity. It walks you through the first situation – Arthur. (See the sample responses below).

Arthur – Arthur has been working for the same insurance firm for 20 years He was recently transferred to a position where he supervises a group of young managers-in-training. As a senior employee he is well paid. Money though doesn’t mean much to Arthur. His investments have done well and he has no family to support. Arthur’s principal interest has always been the work itself. If he’s diligent, Arthur is able to do a good job. But the transfer has taken him away from his previous work and he finds supervision uninteresting. In recognition of this, Arthur has been given a raise and promised more of the same work.

Space Utilization - The perception process

Sherman Adder, assistant plant manager for Frame Manufacturing Company, is chairperson of the ad hoc committee for space utilization. The committee is made up of the various department heads in the company. The plant manager of Frame has given Sherman the responsibility for seeing whether the various office, operations, and warehouse facilities of the company are being optimally utilized. The company is beset by raising costs and the need for more space. However, before okaying an expensive addition to the plant, the plant manager wants to be sure that the currently available space is being utilized properly.

Sherman opened up the first committee meeting by reiterating the charge of the committee. The Sherman asked the members if they had any initial observations to make. The first to speak was the office manager, He stated; “Well, I know we are using every possible inch of room that we have available to us. But when I walk out into the plant, I see a lot of open spaces. We have people piled on top of one another, but out in the plant there seems to be plenty of rooms.” The production manager quickly replied: ‘We don not have a lot of space. Your office people have the luxury facilities. My supervisors don’t even have room for a desk and a file cabinet. I have repeatedly told the plant manager we need more space. After all, our operations determine whether this plant succeeds, or fall, not you people in the front office pushing paper around.” Sherman interrupted at this point and said: Obviously, we have different interpretations of the space utilization around here. Before further discussion I think it would be best if we have some objective facts to work with. I am going to ask the industrial engineer to provide us with some objective statistics on plant and office layouts before our next meeting. Today’s meeting is adjourned.”

Answer:

1. Do you think that Sherman’s approach to “getting facts” from statistics on plant and office layout will affect the perceptions of the office and production managers?

2. How does such information affect perception in general?

In your discussion answer these questions: How do the changes in the body as we age affect nutritional needs – think about physical and physiological changes? How do you address these? What other related changes in dental health, gastrointestinal changes affect nutrition? How do you address these? What malnutrition or vitamin deficiencies can occur during aging? Why? How do you address these? Activity 2: Diet plans Using the meal plans you designed in the Task, come up with a three-day meal plan for one of the three categories: 1. senior with Type II Diabetes 2. senior with heart disease on a low sodium or low cholesterol diet; 3. a healthy senior who has a very active outdoor life. Remember to make the meals inviting, tasty, and nutritious. They need to meet the USDA food recommendations for seniors. Project Assignment: Transcript: "Good morning, I am Mr. Oliver over at the Senior Center. As you might know, we provide meals at lunchtime for the seniors who use our center. This includes healthy senior citizens as well as those who attend our adult daycare for memory-impaired seniors. Even some of our healthy seniors have diets that restrict things like salt. What we need is some help with planning diets that would be healthy and appropriate for all of our seniors. We serve lunch every day and also provide coffee, tea, and snacks throughout the day. I am sure you know all about diets for seniors and restrictions for those with memory impairment who have trouble swallowing. If you could plan two weeks' worth of menus for any of the following: 1 ) healthy seniors without restrictions or 2) low salt diets or 3) a special two-week diet for those memory impaired seniors who have difficulty swallowing, it will really help us provide a wider variety of good-tasting foods for our seniors that are healthy. Many of our seniors live alone and don’t cook for themselves. Of course, some of them get dinners from Meals on Wheels, but others rely on this lunch for their major meal of the day."

  2. b) Obtain a point estimate for the proportion of men who have ended a budding relationship because a kiss did not go well. Obtain a point estimate for the proportion of women who have ended a budding relationship because a kiss did not go well.
  3. c) Does the data suggest that a lower proportion of men have ended a budding relationship because a kiss did not go well than women at the ? = 0.05 level of significance? Use the critical value method. (Show all six steps for hypothesis testing.)
  4. d) Estimate the difference in proportion of men and women who have ended a budding relationship because a kiss did not go well with 90% confidence. Does the sample evidence suggest there is a difference between the two population proportions? If so, interpret and describe the difference by identifying which group has a lower proportion.

Please show formula for test statistic used and steps used to retrieve answer for clarity.
