I would like to know if the sex of a math student is a statistically significant factor in predicting average math exam scores. The following lists are exam scores for a math exam, separated by sex.

male 89 33 104 48 90 80 98 32 98 55 75 74 73 90 105 47 48 67 99 103 63

female 99 80 81 88 94 83 70 42 78 75

Perform a hypothesis test to determine whether the sex of a math student is statistically significant for performance on math tests. In other words, is there a statistically significant difference between the scores of these two groups of students?

(a) State the null and alternative hypotheses. Also, state the meaning of your parameters.

(b) Perform the test. Use α = .05. Show your work. Clearly indicate the value of the test statistic. Be sure to mention the value of df if it is relevant. Also, make sure you clearly state your final answer to the question above.

(c) Compute an appropriate 95% confidence interval that would confirm your final answer from part (b). Explain why it confirms that answer.

A university provides an opportunity for members to take part in training about how to respond to students’ questions. University managers believes that less than 60% of the members took part in the training. You are asked to examine whether there is any evidence to support this claim. You have surveyed 25 members and found that 17 of them have been benefited from the training.

Write down the null and alternative hypotheses in words.

Null hypothesis:
Alterative hypothesis:

State the direction of the test you are conducting and explain why you have chosen this test.

Using a level of significance (α) of 1%, determine the critical value(s).

Determine your decision rule (drawing a diagram on a paper may be helpful).

Calculate your test statistic.

QUESTION 1

ABC Ltd is a wholesaler of furniture which has been in operation for ten years. It buys furniture from five major manufacturers and sells them to a range of customers. The company currently has a customer base of over 500 customers most of which are credit customers. The receivables balance comprises customers owing up to $2,000,000 to smaller balances of about $10,000, all with many different due dates for payments and credit limits. The level of receivables is considerably higher than last year and there are concerns about the creditworthiness of some customers.

The company has only recently computerised its operations including its accounting system. Manual invoices, receipts and cheques have been replaced with computer-generated documents. The sub-ledgers are now maintained in the accounting software which have facilitated more timely generation of statements much to the delight of customers. The sales process is initiated by a Purchase Order from the customer which is used to raise a system generated Sales Invoice and Delivery Slip. A copy of the Delivery Slip is given to the Security at the gate for logging and check off to allow passage of goods through the gate; another copy of the Delivery Slip is given for the customer to sign and then returned to the Sales Dept. All information is stored on ABC Ltd’s computer systems. There is no backup of data off site. The client’s staff are helpful although they cannot confirm completeness of documentation for the system.

You are the audit senior in charge assigned for ABC Ltd’s audit and you are in the process of planning the current year’s audit. You are contemplating the changes in the client’s audit environment and the impact that these changes will have on the audit risk and the audit methodology. Your audit assistant is curious why it is necessary to plan the audit from one year to the next. Why not just copy the previous year’s workpapers?

Required

1. Explain to the audit assistant the importance of and some of the benefits [at least four benefits] to be derived from having a tailored audit plan for each audit.

2. (a) Based on your risk assessment of the new computerized information system (CIS) environment, list two inherent risks of CIS you have identified and discuss how these factors impact the overall audit risk

(b) Outline the audit procedure which you will use in response to each risk identified in (a) above in planning the audit?

(c) State the approach for auditing in a computerized environment which you are using to design tests for testing controls over processing of data. Explain the reason for your choice, highlighting the benefits and drawbacks. State any assumption made as to resource availability.

(d) Explain how the choice of approach in (c) above is likely to impact audit risk? Identify the audit risk component which is most likely to be affected.

3. (a) Your audit plan notes that you will be testing the system of internal controls for the ‘three Es’. Explain the ‘three Es’ and the impact these will have on the audit if positive and if negative.

(b) State the audit procedure you will be using for the following:

i) To test the control over completeness of sales

ii) To test the accuracy and existence of receivables balances

(c) List the set of management assertions for “Sales” and “Accounts Receivable” which you will be testing.

Modern medical practice tells us not to encourage babies to become too fat. Is there a positive correlation between the weight, x, or a 1-year-old baby and the weight, y, of the mature adult (30 years old)? A random sample of medical files produced the following information for 14 females. Please use this data to answer all parts of the question.

x (lbs) 21 25 23 24 20 15 25 21 17 24 26 22 18 19

y (lbs) 125 125 120 125 130 120 145 130 130 130 130 140 110 115

note: For these data, ?̅≈ 21.42, ?? ≈ 3.32, ?̅ ≈ 126.79, ?? ≈ 9.12 1.

Use a 5% level of significance to test the claim that ? > 0.

a. State the null and alternative hypotheses.

?0:

?1:

b. What calculator test will you use? List the requirements that must be met for you to use this test, and indicate whether the conditions are met in this problem.

c. Run the calculator test and obtain the P-value.

d. Based on your P-value, will you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?

e. Interpret your conclusion from part d in the context of this problem. In other words, what does this result tell you about the population correlation between the weight of a child at 1 year, and their corresponding weight as an adult?

A) Review the mean and median. Notice that they are very close to one another. What does this tell us about the distribution of the data? Explain your answer.

B) Explain what the standard deviation of 4.3 tells us about the variability in the data.

C) Considering the information in the table, would you recommend using the interquartile range as a better measure to describe the data? Explain your answer.

Think of two leaders and talk about which theory of leadership s/he falls under and which leadership style(s) you feel s/he uses (make sure each person uses a different theory and leadership style). Define in your own words what the theory and style is about, explain your reasoning for choosing them, and provide specific examples to support your answer.

The state workers’ compensation board that governs workers’ compensation for the state that your company resides...

The state workers’ compensation board that governs workers’ compensation for the state that your company resides and performs all of its business in, has decided to reject the four exceptions to the governing classification and single enterprise rule in your state. Understanding this is a very big issue, your company’s legal team has elicited your help to write an argumentative paper that will be presented to the workers’ compensation board during the public hearings scheduled for next week. Compose a paper that defends the following list:

1. the Standard Exception classifications,

2. the Interchange of Labor rules,

3. the General Exclusion classes, and

4. the use of the Multiple Enterprise rule.

The legal department is depending on you to ensure that to help the board understand why the rejection of these exceptions would be so detrimental to your business. Make sure you argue your points based on a company with 8,000-plus employees, within seven different manufacturing sites and two major administrative buildings that are separated geographically from the plants. Your EMR for the trailing 36-month period is 0.94 and the gross revenue for your company is $1.3 billion. Your paper must be a minimum of three pages (not including the title and reference page) and include at least two academic resources. All information from outside resources should be cited in APA format. Please include an abstract that summarizes the key points of your defense and/or argument.
