Discuss and answer at least two of the questions listed below in detail.

1. Why should investment securities be separated into different classifications (Hold to Maturity, Available for Sale, etc.)? Why not just treat them the same so you don’t have to worry about their ability or intention?

2. Is it possible for a company to “manage” its bottom line by classification or reclassification of securities? If so, how? Is this ethical?

3. What are the disclosure requirements regarding Sarbanes-Oxley for investments?

4. Why would a company invest in another company’s equity? How about investing in another company’s debt securities? What might be some good reasons why a company would invest in another company’s debt securities?

5. Let’s talk about the Equity method. What is it? What disclosures are required? Why do you think the accounting rules require this kind of disclosure?

Enter the Shoe Size and Height data from the In class data Excel file (use the excel in class data lab file loaded into the files section of Canvas) into the week 7 Regression Excel sheet. Create a scatter plot for the data, store and graph the regression equation, and note the r2 and r value.

  1. Looking at the graph and the r, and r^2 value, do you feel that shoe size is a good predictor for height? Explain your reasoning for each.
  2. Assuming that shoe size is a good predictor, what would the estimated height be for someone who wears size 10 shoes? Either show work or explain how your answer was calculated.
  3. Do you think that organizing the data by gender would make a difference in how well shoe size predicts height? Are women’s shoe sizes the same as men’s? Is this a factor that should also be considered? Explain. (A great explanation would provide evidence supporting the conclusions. A good explanation can simply use reason.)

They want the dinner to be a big success but unfortunately, they have little experience in planning dinners and are not sure which tasks they need to do in order to succeed. Kai, the chair of the committee wants to guide them but he has little reward power over them since they are not paid workers. He doesn't know what leadership style to use.

In class we discussed several theories that argue that proper leadership varies depending on the situation.

a. Based on his writings, what type of leadership would Fred Fiedler suggest that the committee chair use? Why?

Give specific examples to support your major points.

b. What type of leadership would path-goal theory suggest? Give examples to support your points.

Corporate Overview: In this section, you will summarize the industry and corporate overview you created in the first part of your final project. Be sure to focus on the industry trends and issues, as you will expand upon them throughout this report.

Risks and Challenges: In this section, you will expand on several forms of risk and explain how each impacts corporate value and decision making.

Describe the challenges financial managers can face regarding working capital management (WCM) in short-term planning.

Analyze economic and political risk in relation to your chosen corporation for potential impact on shareholder value maximization. If there are

no current risks related to economics and politics facing the industry or your corporation, analyze economic and political risk in general terms,

discussing how they could impact shareholder value in general.

Analyze industry-specific risks—such as competition, supply chains, and technological disruptions—for their potential influence on financial

decision making within your chosen corporation. Provide examples to illustrate your claims.

Analyze company-specific challenges that could impact corporate success in the long- or short-term. These challenges may include things like

access to key talent, facilities, natural resources, or patents.
