Balancing School and Life - My Quality of Life Self-Care Plan. The purpose of developing this Plan is to set a framework and a plan to maintain wellness and to stay motivated and engaged throughout your Program. Doing this will help you achieve success during your coursework and as a professional nurse.

The goal of the Project is to help you become self-aware and reflective as a means of identifying personal self-care strategies that will increase your energy and help you manage your stress. The Project will give you a chance to learn how this is accomplished as you will be doing similar work with clients during the Program and as a professional nurse to assist them in the same way.

Use the Quality of Life Self-Care Wheel to assess your current state. After you determine your scores, in a 2-3 page paper complete the following:

  • Discuss those areas that are strengths (higher scores) and those areas that need further development (lower scores).
  • Identify two strategies you can use to maintain or maximize each identified strength.
  • Identify two strategies you can use to strengthen each area needing development. Explain how you will put these strategies into action. Be specific. For example, instead of stating, "I need to exercise," your action should state "I will begin to walk 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week." The action should be SMART- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timeframe
  • Also attach your completed form
  • Minimum length 2-3 pages not including cover or referencing. APA formatting

Submit your completed assignment by following the directions linked below. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.

Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document. (Mac users, please remember to append the '.docx' extension to the filename.) The name of the file should be your first initial and last name, followed by an underscore and the name of the assignment, and an underscore and the date. An example is shown below:

Patient Profile

J.K. is a 57-yr-old white woman who was is referred to the neurosurgery service for management of her temporal-parietal glioblastoma. She was diagnosed after presenting with persistent headaches, a seizure in her HCP's office, and left side upper visual field loss and neglect. Her MRI/MRA demonstrated a temporal-parietal glioblastoma that extends into the occipital lobes. She is scheduled for surgery to debulk the tumor. J.K. lives alone and holds a management position. She is concerned about her ability to return to work after her surgery.

J.K. returns from surgery to the neurosurgery unit drowsy but following commands. During the night J.K. is noted to have a pronator drift of the left arm, her pupils are equal and respond to light, but she has also developed left-sided weakness of both arm and leg and difficulty with answering questions.

Medications: dexamethasone 4 mg q6hr, famotidine, metoclopramide, ondansetron (Zofran), codeine, and levetiracetam (Keppra) since her admitting seizure.

Subjective Data

  • Left arm and leg are weak and feel numb
  • She is trying to answer questions but looks confused and cannot follow commands.

Objective Data

  • BP 150/90 mm Hg
  • right gaze preference
  • Left homonymous hemianopsia
  • Left arm weakness (3/5) greater than leg weakness (4/5)
  • Decreased sensation on both left arm and leg
  • Has speech but not clear. Difficulty with word finding and following commands
  • A diagnostic CT scan demonstrates a hemorrhagic stroke into the site of the tumor bed, and temporal-parietal and anterior occipital areas extending into the thalamus.

Questions:

#1. What are the priority nursing interventions and decisions that have to be made regarding safety and self-care related to the left neglect and visual field cut?

#2. Based on the assessment data provided, what are the priority nursing diagnoses?

#3. How can you work together with the interprofessional team to develop and implement strategies to improve communication for J.K.?

• “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of the noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

• “I believe that today more than ever a book should be sought after even if it has only one great page in it. We must search for fragments, splinters, toenails, anything that has ore in it, anything that is capable of resuscitating the body and the soul.”

• “I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there's gum in my hair and when I got out of bed this morning I tripped on the skateboard and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink while the water was running and I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.”

• “We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep.”

• “For in a swift radiance of illumination he saw a glimpse of human struggle and of valor. Of the endless fluid passage of humanity through endless time. And of those who labor and of those who--one word--love. His soul expanded. But for a moment only.”

• “The lamp on the rocks on the side of the hill was little more than a mote of light and after a while they walked back. Everything too wet to make a fire.”

• “Then, slowly, the shining dwindled until it, too, was gone, and there was nothing but stars and starlight. No shadows. No fear. Only the stars and the clear darkness of space, quite different from the fearful darkness of the Thing.”

A farmer has 360 acres of land on which to plant corn and wheat. She has $24,000 in resources to use for planting and tending the fields and storage facility sufficient to hold 18,000 bushels of the grain (in any combination). From past experience, she knows that it costs $120 / acre to grow corn and $60 / acre to grow wheat; also, the yield for the grain is 100 bushels / acre for corn and 40 bushels / acre for wheat. If the market price is $225 per acre for corn and $100 per acre for wheat, how many acres of each crop should she plant in order to maximize her revenue?

A.

1. Set up a linear programming problem, choosing variables, finding a formula for your objective function, and inequalities to represent the constraints.

2. You will need to decide a reasonable range for your variables, and then put in a column of values within that range for the x-variable in column A. Then you want to solve each constraint equation for y, and use that formula to get values in the "y for C1", etc., columns (B, C, D). Then graph the three constraint lines on one graph (as you did in Lab 1: open its Word document if you need refreshing on how to do this).

3. Shade in the feasible region.

4. Find the corners of the feasible region using goal seek to find intersections of lines, as you did in Lab 1.

5. Find in column H the values of f at the corners of the feasible region.

6. Determine the maximum revenue.

7. Finally, using new objective functions for when the prices of corn are at their highs and lows, answer the final question. This only involves computing new values of the objective function, not any new graphing or constraints.

x represents:

y represents:

Formula for objective function: f =

Constraint 1:

Constraint 2:

Constraint 3:

Corners of feasible region           f at corners

So how many acres of each crop should she plant?

Outdoor Sports is considering adding a miniature golf course to its facility. Given the following information for Outdoor Sports, please find the (A) WACC, (B) Internal Rate of Return, and (C) Net Present Value of this project. Assume the company's tax rate is 34 percent.

[Project]

The miniature golf course would cost $138,000, would be depreciated on a straight-line basis over its five-year life, and would have a zero salvage value. The estimated income from the golfing fees would be $72,000 a year with $24,000 of that amount being variable cost. The fixed cost would be $11,600. In addition, the firm anticipates an additional $14,000 in revenue from its existing facilities if the golf course is added. The project will require $3,000 of net working capital, which is recoverable at the end of the project.

[Financial data]

Leopold was clearly offering an alternative definition of, and orientation for, conservation. Though it sounds simplistic, for Leopold, conservation required the establishment of a state of harmony between humans and nature, which implied a commitment to two principles: that we strive to understand how the natural world functions; and that we practice precaution in our use of the natural world. These two principles are well reflected in the following excerpts from a couple of Leopold’s better known essays.

Health is the capacity of the land for self-renewal. Conservation is our effort to understand and preserve this capacity. - 'The Land Ethic' (1949)

The last word in ignorance is the man (sic) who says of an animal or plant: "What good is it?" If the land mechanism as a whole is good, then every part is good, whether we understand it or not. If the biota, in the course of aeons, has built something we like but do not understand, then who but a fool would discard seemingly useless parts? To keep every cog and wheel is the first precaution of intelligent tinkering. - 'Round River' (1953)

This call to think ecologically was loudly heard again later in the century with the publication of Rachel Carson’s 1962 book, Silent Spring, which publicized the impacts of agricultural pesticides on wildlife and human health. While Carson’s book was largely read as a warning to humanity, consistent with the shallow, human-centred, form of environmentalism that emerged in the late 1960s, her real intent was arguably to challenge us to recognize our existence within ecosystems and the utter foolishness of non-ecological thinking.

Activity Thinking Ecologically

you are asked to think about how the use of a highly persistent and broad spectrum insecticide like dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) shows ignorance of ecological thinking? Put another way, why would an ecologist think that it makes little sense to use DDT? Can you come up with three (3) points?

Please do little research and provide the reference (thank you )

Vegfrost Corporation produces cases of frozen food. During May, the company produced and sold 1,450 cases of food and incurred the following actual costs:

Variable overhead £11,000

Fixed overhead £26,000

Actual labour cost (8,000 direct-labour hours) £151,200

Actual material cost (30,000 kilos purchased and used) £66,000

The actual selling price per case was £240.

Overheads are budgeted and applied using direct-labour hours in a standard costing system.

Standard cost and budget information for May are as follows:

Standard cost per case:

Direct labour (5 hours at £18 per hour)    £90

Direct material (20 kilos at £2 per kilo) £40

Variable overhead (5 direct-labour hours at £1.50 per hour)    £7.50

Fixed overhead (5 direct-labour hours at £3 per hour)    £15

Total £152.50

May sales budget information:

Budgeted revenues £345,000

Budgeted selling price per case    £230

Given the perishable nature of the product, to prepare the budget, Vegfrost assumed that all

cases produced in May would be sold (there is no inventory of cases).

Required:

a) Prepare a budgeted profit and loss statement and an actual profit and loss statement for May, using a contribution margin format, and indicate the total profit variance.

b) Flex the budget; calculate the flexible budget variances for all items and the overall flexible budget variance. Indicate if each variance is favourable or unfavourable. When flexing the budget, please note that ‘output volume’ for this business is the number of cases produced and sold.

c) Reconcile actual and planned profit by analysing the variances for sales revenue and all costs items, separately. Be as specific as you can using the data available.

d) In a report format, present the results of the analysis to the owners of Vegfrost and explain them the reasons for the variances. Advise the owners and indicate which additional data you would recommend them to collect to improve the analysis and why.

Instructions:

Quite often, I have heard many people say that "a managers job is simply to tell people what to do." I sometimes wonder if that is true! Hey, I just thought of a great idea. Instead of just wondering if that statement has any validity to it, let's just ask a manager.

Your task for this week is to interview a manager.  It can be a present or past manager or someone whom you have never worked with. You may choose any organization you wish - perhaps one in which you or a family member/friend have worked. Feel free to choose a for-profit or not-for-profit organization. Below is a list of questions to help get you started.

  • What are their responsibilities?
  • What is their managerial hierarchy level? How many people do they report to directly?
  • What is the most challenging part of their job?
  • How many of the four basic management principles do they use? (planning, organizing, leading and controlling)
  • What is their managerial span of control?
  • How important to their job are technical, conceptual, interpersonal, and communication skills?
  • What is their primary leadership style? Does that style work for most situations or do they sometimes use a different approach?

Once you have completed your interviews, develop a summary of your findings that includes:

  • A brief summary of the organization and its purpose (you may withhold the name if you wish).
  • A description of the industry in which the organization exists (list major competitors if appropriate).
  • A description of the manager and his/her position within the organization (withhold the name).
  • Your paper should include: Two (2) Full Pages, Typed, Double Space, Font Size 12- Times Roman, MLA Format with a Minimum of (2) Cited Sources.

Your thoughtful input should reflect application of concepts studied in this module, and should reflect proper use of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage, sentence structure, and paragraph structure.
