Case 1 Quantitative Analysis
Ashley Miller has three major routes to commute to work: take RiverView Street the entire way, take several back streets, or use the expressway. The traffic patterns are pretty complex. Under good conditions, RiverView Street is the fastest route; however, when it is congested, one of the other routes is usually preferable. Over the past two months, Ashley has tried each route several times under different traffic conditions. Her travel time to work (in minutes) is summarized in the following table.

1. If nothing is known about the demand probabilities,
a. Based on Conservative Approach, which route should Ashley choose to commute to work?
b. Using the Minimax Regret Approach, create the Opportunity Loss/Regret Table. What route should Ashley take if she wants to minimize average drive time?
2. Suppose the probabilities for No Traffic Congestion, Mild Traffic Congestion, and Severe Traffic Congestion are 50%, 33%, and 17% respectively,
c. Construct a Decision Tree (draw it neatly by using MS Word/MS Excel Drawing Tool OR if you are drawing it by hand, please a ruler) and solve it using Expected Value Approach. What is the recommended decision alternative?
d. Calculate the Expected Value of the Perfect Information (EVPI)?

Expanding Gregory’s – Greg and John has owned Gregory’s Greek
Restaurant for over thirty years. The restaurant overlooks a river
and offers visitors a lovely view of the countryside. Over the
years, the restaurant’s popularity has grown through word-of-mouth
advertising, and now guest often wait up to two hours on the
weekend before being seated. Greg and John have been approached by
Capstone Developers, which wants to use the Gregory’s Greek
Restaurant concept in a mixed-use development it is putting
together. It seems that one of Capstone’s managers ate at Gregory’s
and loved the concept. Capstone Developers put together an
investment proposal for Greg and Andy requesting to use their
concept and cash equity for the deal.
The following are excerpts from the offer:
· Use of the Gregory Greek Restaurant name in exchange for limited
partnership units in the new restaurant.
· A request for a 45% equity investment from Greg and John on the
total project cost of $3,000,000. In return for their investment,
they will receive 25% ownership and 25% of all cash flows, with
Capstone reserving 75%.
· With an estimated $175,000 in cash flows in Year 1 and a 10%
growth rate over the next decade, the return on equity looks very
promising.
· Capstone Developers, as the general partner, will retain all
operating rights, including the right to decide when the restaurant
and property will be sold.
Analyze the structure of the equity proposal. If you were Greg and John, would you accept this offer as it stands? If not, what would you negotiate?

Choose and research four (4) infectious diseases. Try to achieve a variety in your own selections as well as diseases unique from what your classmates have already posted. For your research please use only well-known, reputable sources.
In one discussion post that has four sections, create a brief description or summary of each of your four diseases. The word count for each disease should be approximately 100 words. The content of your summaries should include the etiology, mode of transmission, target host, or any other pertinent details about each disease that makes them unique. The summaries may be short, but they should be complete and include any essential or notable facts about the diseases.
At the end of each summary include a question about the disease that would prompt your colleagues to visit your references and find the answer. They will have the opportunity to go into more detail about the topics in their discussion replies.
In your replies to this discussion, answer at least one of the four questions posed by your classmate in their initial discussion post. You will visit the resources listed in their reference list to answer and expand on that aspect of the pathogen or the disease it causes.

Reducing Health Disparities
In 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the first CDC Health Disparities and Inequalities Report (CHDIR). This report examined health disparities in the United States associated with various characteristics, including race/ethnicity, sex, income, education, disability status, and geography.
Among other recommendations, the 2011 CHDIR emphasized the need to address health disparities with a dual intervention strategy that focuses on populations at greatest need and improves the health of the general population by making interventions available to everyone.

Create a 4- to 5-page Microsoft Word document that addresses the following:
Compare the patterns of the major diseases of
Hispanic/Latino groups and their rates and health effects between
the other racial or ethnic groups living in the United
States.
Identify at least one consequence that a lack of
access to healthcare has on Hispanics/Latinos.
Explain why access to care issues will need to be
monitored even more closely within the U.S. healthcare system
beginning 2014.
Find at least two scholarly journal articles that
discuss all or at least one of the topic areas related to
Hispanic/Latino health disparities in the United States. Provide a
synopsis of each article.
Explain what type of barrier(s) (structural,
financial, or socio-cultural) each article examines? Describe at
least two policies or strategies that can be implemented to improve
access to healthcare services as they relate to the articles you
reviewed.

Criminal Justice - short writting- Plea bargaining
Between 2002 and 2004, Ariel Castro kidnapped three young women and held them prisoner in his Cleveland, Ohio home. Held against their will for ten years, the women were beaten, raped, and starved. In May 2013, one of the women screamed for help when she saw neighbors through a screen door. Hours later, the two other women were rescued and Castro was arrested. Over the course of two months, 977 charges were brought against Castro including kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder for the intentional induction of five miscarriages. Castro pled guilty to 937 of the 977 charges in a plea bargain that spared him the death penalty.
As we noted in Chapter 10, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and defendants often agree to plea bargains, in which the prosecutor and the defense work out a mutually satisfactory agreement that is subject to court approval. In this case, Castro pled guilty to the kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder charges in exchange for consecutive life sentences, plus 1,000 years with no eligibility for parole. He subsequently committed suicide while in prison. Conduct some independent research on this case. Considering what you have learned about plea bargaining in Chapter 10 (Criminal justice by siegel) , please answer the following:
How could a man in a urban area kidnap and hold 3 women against their will for 10 years? Was this case an example of the effective use of plea bargaining? Explain.

Find a market in Singapore that differs from
the perfect competition benchmark in an interesting or important
way, and report on how and why that market differs from the
benchmark. Markets which differ from the benchmark generally do so
because of strategic behaviour or problems of imperfect markets ;
apply one of these theories to analyse the market in question.
Then, suggest a method of increasing competition in the
market.
The total word limit of the written report is 1,500 words, not
counting tables, figures and references. You may allocate words as
desired among sub-questions, subject to the total limit. A good
report may be considerably shorter. Avoid copying or rephrasing
text from the study guide or textbook, as absolutely no marks will
be awarded for explaining economic theory using the textbook. The
idea is to apply the theory to the problem at hand. You should
segment your report into the following sections:
(a) Summarize the key details of the market in question, explaining
the main product, the market players, and the prevailing market
clearing mechanism or trading arrangement (e.g. how do buyers and
sellers interact).
(b) Explain how the market differs from the assumptions of perfect
competition. Apply a theory from strategic behaviour or imperfect
markets to illustrate and examine the market’s departure from
perfect competition.
(c) Suggest a mechanism to resolve the problem you have identified
that affects competition in the market. The mechanism could be a
business innovation, a public policy, or government regulation.
Explain why the mechanism would be effective. It may also be the
case that no market correction is required; if so, explain why.

Case Study-Insurance Company Network Design [5 x 3=15
Marks]
Care super insurance company has 150 computers that are networked
together. It also has four
servers and uses a star topology wired network to reach employees'
offices, with a bus
interconnecting four floors in its office building. Because of a
staggering influx of Internet business,
the network administrator's task is to boost network performance
and availability as much as
possible. The company also wants a network design that's easy to
reconfigure and change because
workgroups form and disband frequently and their membership changes
regularly. All computers
must share sensitive data and control access to customer files and
databases. Aside from customer
information and billing databases, which run on all servers,
employees' desktop computers must run
standard word-processing and spreadsheet programs.
Use the following write-on lines to evaluate the requirements for
this network. After you finish,
determine the best network topology or topology combination for the
company. On a blank piece of
paper, sketch the network design you think best suits company
needs. Remember: High performance
and easy reconfiguration are your primary design goals!
a. Design a Network topology for the given scenario.
b. Will the network be peer-to-peer or server based? Justify your
answer.
c. Analyse business goals for this network.
d. Analyse business priorities for this network.
e. Investigate business constraints for this network.
