[Discrete math]

Show that it is possible to arrange the numbers 1, 2, . . . , n

in a row so that the average of any two of these numbers

never appears between them. [Hint: Show that it suffices

to prove this fact when n is a power of 2. Then use mathematical

induction to prove the result when n is a power

of 2.]

I saw the solution but I don't understand why permutation pi is using here.. please explain it with more detail.

A biological psychologist wants to know if physical exercise changes reaction speed in elderly people.   A total of 18 older volunteer participants were found. One sample of n = 9 subjects received an exercise treatment, while the second sample (n = 9) of participants were given stretching lessons for the same amount of time per week. Reaction speed was tested on the computer after six weeks of treatment. Reaction speed was measured in milliseconds. Data shown below.

Why do you use this type of statistical test? _________

What is the I.V.? ___________________   What is the D.V.? ______________________

Use the data below to fill in the blanks to compute your tcalculated.

stretch group exercise group

nstretch = 9           dfstretch = 8   nexercise = 9              dfexercise = 8

∑Xstretch = 450        MStretch = 50 ∑Xexercise = 390            M Exercise = 43.3

SS stretch = 260    S2stretch  = _____ SDstretch = _____ SSExercise = 376   S2Exercise = ______ SDExercise = ______

Use the 4 step method for hypothesis testing.

Step 1.

Step 2. alpha = .05, 2 tailed test

Step 3. Calculate your test statistic (tcalculated) (show formulas and work)

tcalculated = Mstretch – Mexercise / SM1– M2

Tcalculated = ___________

Step 4. State your conclusion about the null hypothesis:       Reject        or       Retain

Summarize your results in APA format.

1. About 1% of the population has a particular genetic mutation. 200 people are randomly selected. Find the standard deviation for the number of people with the genetic mutation in such groups of 200.

2. A drug test is accurate 97% of the time. If the test is given to 1600 people who have not taken drugs, what is the probability that at least 50 will test positive?

Probability =

Give your answers to at least 3 decimal places.

3. According to the American Red Cross, 9.4% of all Connecticut residents have Type B blood. A random sample of 23 Connecticut residents is taken.

X=X=the number of CT residents that have Type B blood, of the 23 sampled.

What is the standard deviation of the random variable XX?

M2: Discussion on the Goals of the Firm (Sections 40, 58)

In Module 1 and Module 2, we learn about possible goals of the firm in some detail. However, you must have realized this issue merits more in-depth analysis. In this discussion you are all encouraged to participate and contribute your thoughts on what should be the goal of a firm. Feel free to describe the aspects you have observed in your work experience.

Your discussion participation will be evaluated by the attached rubric.
Click here to see how to view the rubric for a graded discussion. (Links to an external site.) The categories and points are as follows:
I. Quality of Posts (50 points)
II. Quantity of Posts (20 points)
III. Timeliness of Posts (20 points)
IV. Professionalism (10 points)

The ecological model asserts that individuals develop and grow within a number of reciprocal systems. These systems include the micro-system, meso-system, exo-system, macro-system, and chronosystem, with the individual at the center.

The ecological model is very helpful in understanding at-risk families and youth and guiding advocacy efforts. Choose one person from a book or movie. Explain the problems this person is facing that may put him/her at-risk. Discuss, in depth and in detail, how each system in the ecological model impacts your client. What role could a child and family advocate play in this person’s life? Be specific with your answers and give examples.

Quality Associates, Inc., a consulting firm, advises its clients about sampling and statistical procedures that can be used to control their manufacturing processes. In one particular application, metal spheres are created for conducting scientific experiments. A client gave Quality Associates a sample of 800 observations taken during a time in which that client's process of creating metal spheres was operating satisfactorily. The sample standard deviation for the radii of these spheres was 0.21 cm; hence, with so much data, the population standard deviation was assumed to be 0.21 cm. Quality Associates then suggested that random samples of size 30 be taken periodically to monitor the process on an ongoing basis. By analyzing the new samples, the client could quickly learn whether the process was operating satisfactorily. When the process was not operating satisfactorily, corrective action could be taken to eliminate the problem. The design specification indicated the mean for the process should be 12 cm.

  • A (brief) introduction that states the intent of your report.

  •  A section in which you state the appropriate hypotheses for whether the production process is operating correctly. You should conduct a hypothesis test for each of the four samples using a 1% level of significance and determine what action, if any, should be taken.

  •  A section in which you compute an interval around 12 cm such that, as long as a new sample mean is within those limits, the process will be considered to be operating satisfactorily using a 1% level of significance. Include in this section a discussion of the implications of changing the level of significance to 5%. What mistake or error could increase with this adjusted level of significance?

  •  A section that contains conclusions and recommendations.
