Management plan case 2
Your facility is a large children’s hospital in north Texas. Until recently your facility was part of a larger health care facility run by the state. The facility is now corporately owned and operated. During this reorganization period a major fire occurred at a local elementary school. Over 100 injured children were sent to your facility for care. You encountered many problems: care was delayed and inappropriate for many children because of the nature of their injuries due to lack of parental consent for treatment and smoke inhalation and burns.
Your task is to develop a disaster plan specifically to address the deficiencies and to reshape your public image following the fire at the elementary school.

Having done poorly on their Math final exams in June, six students repeat the course in summer school and take another exam in August. If these students are representative of all students who might attend this summer school in other years, do these results provide evidence that the program is worthwhile? Use a = 0.05. Assume all conditions and assumptions have been satisfied.

B 52 68
C 68 74
D 70 66

The College Board American College Testing Program reported a population mean SAT score of 1020, with a standard deviation of 100. a. Let’s say a local school wants to estimate their senior class average SAT score at 90% confidence within 10 points, how many student scores should they sample? 1 pt. b. Let’s say that they sample 49 scores. What is the probability that this school’s would get a sample average of 1015 or worse, if they actually have a true average the same as the national mean of 1020? 1 pt. c. What should the local school report for their average SAT at 90% confidence, if they got a sample average of 1015? 1 pt.

An organization surveyed 613 high school seniors from a certain country and found that 325 believed they would not have enough money to live comfortably in college. The folks at the organization want to know if this represents sufficient evidence to conclude a majority (more than 50%) of high school seniors in the country believe they will not have enough money in college. (a) What does it mean to make a Type II error for this test? (b) If the researcher decides to test this hypothesis at the alpha equals 0.05 level of significance, compute the probability of making a Type II error, beta, if the true population proportion is 0.55. What is the power of the test? (c) Redo part (b) if the true population proportion is 0.57.

A) You want to estimate what percent of a school has a dog so you survey 50 people. 20 tell you they have a dog at home. What is your best guess at the true proportion of people who have a dog at home? What is your 95% confidence interval? Your 90% confidence interval? How many people would you need to survey to have a 95% confidence interval of 5% in length.
B) You ask the 20 people with dogs how much their dog weighs. You get a mean response of 30lbs with a standard deviation of 8lbs. What is your 95% confidence interval for the average weight of the school student's dog?
