1. A manufacturing company manufactures a cardboard box with a square base and a height of 15 inches. Suppose the equation x2 +60x- 7,200 = 0 can be used to find the length and width of the base of the box, each measuring x inches.
Write the equation in factored form.
Use the zero product property to solve the equation. Show all the steps needed to find both answers.
Explain how the solution relates to this situation
2. City engineers decide to build a rectangular dog park that has an area of 3,600 square yards, where the length of the park is 10 more yards than twice its width. The equation x2 +5x-1,800 = 0 can be used to find the width of the dog park.
Write the equation in factored form
Use the zero product property to solve the equation. Show all the steps needed to find both answers.
Explain how the solution relates to this situation.
3. A graphic designer uses a photo editing program to increase both the height and width of a square image by 3 inches. Suppose the equation x2 +6x-55 = 0 can be used to find the height and width of the original image.
Write the equation in factored form.
Use the zero product property to solve the equation. Show all the steps needed to find both answers.
Explain how the solution relates to this situation.

The business problem facing the director of broadcasting operations for a television station was the issue of standby hours (i.e. hours in which unionized graphic artists at the station are paid but are not actually involved in any activity) and what factors were related to standby hours. A study of standby hours was conducted for 26 weeks. The variables in the study are described below and the data from the study are shown in the accompanying table.

Consider a country, Home, which produces two goods, Cloth and Food, using capital and labour with a constant-return-to-scale technology. Food production is capital-intensive and cloth production is labour-intensive. Capital and labour can move freely between the two industries. Finally, let’s assume that Home’s consumption decisions can be represented using regularly-shaped indifference curves.
1.When Home is not engaged in international trade, use a graphic to illustrate the consumption and production points in Home in autarky (pre-trade situation). (2 points) 2. Assume now that Home has the possibility to trade with another country and the relative price of cloth, PC/PF in the international market, rises. a. What will be the effects of the price change on production and consumption in home? Illustrate your answer. (10 points) b. What will be the trade pattern in Home? Explain and illustrate! (5 points) c. Will there be complete specialization in Home? Why? (5 points) d. Show that Home will gain from trade? Illustrate your answer! (10 points) 3. What will be the impact of the price change on the wage rate and the rental rate of capital in Home? Make sure that you provide the theoretical basis for your answer? (8 points) 4. Would the change in labour endowment affect existing trade pattern in Home? Discuss! (10 points)

thoughts and feedback on this?
The arguments for skeuomorphism are it makes easier
for similar devices with the original device to use the digital
emulation and it is visually appealing. Also, skeuomorphic design
seems to facilitate a fast navigation through graphic user
interface. Some user finds the skeuomorphs application are fun and
catchy
The arguments against skeuomorphism are interface elements use
metaphor make it more difficult to operate. It also takes more
screen space than standard interface elements. It causes and
inconsistent look and feel between application. Technology always
changed and improve over time, which mean the 3D interfaces are no
longer compassing with the trend. Skeuomorphism inherently lead to
inconsistency across the application, making the overall experience
less intuitive. Also, the Skeuomorphic graphics are more complicate
to design and complex coding when create, compare to the Flat
application. In addition, as the ornamentation becomes more
excessive, it can actually hurt the overall user experience—and
that's when “real” becomes wrong.
I don't believe that it is the flat-design interfaces Windows 8
that has kept it from being .It’s the Microsoft Window itself made
it easy to used and simple design will help the user easy to
remember instead the 3D rectangle skeuomorphic design. However, by
shedding unnecessary styling, clearer code, and easy
adaptability. It also lends itself beautifully to every
type of application; whether viewed on a desktop or a mobile
screen.

Using this assignment prompt below, you will determine what two action to take as a team. Choose people to lay off and save money so that you are on budget.
A brief background about the situation. You each are members of the executive team. Recently, your organization has been experiencing no growth. As a matter of fact, you've been losing money. You have 20 employees. Your team is currently on track to post a negative gain for the 3rd quarter of the year. Your team of 20 employees does not include the executive team (which makes $450,000). You have 1 receptionist ($35,000), 1 office manager ($65,000), 5 consultants (averaging about $78,000), 3 sales consultants (averaging $90,000), 1 marketer ($55,000), 1 web designer ($84,000), a graphic designer ($72,000), 1 accounts payable (38,000), 1 accounts receivable (37,000), 2 IT specialist ( averaging $62,000) and an IT manager ($92,000), an HR manager ($75,000), and a facilities manager ($65,000). You have enough money in the budget ($1,250,000)to pay only 12-15 of those employees based off of your current projects. You may get another project but you won't know if you won the contract for 2 months. If you do get the project, it would start a month after that date and you would have to hire additional staff.

I'm having trouble figuring out the constraints to this problem. I know that I am maximizing 55x + 45y, however the variables are throwing me off. I only need help on question #1 as it would be a great help to understanding the rest of what the questions are asking. The problem is as follows:
NorCal Outfitters manufactures a variety of specialty gear for outdoor enthusiasts. NorCal has decided
to begin production on two new models of crampons: the Denali and Cascade. The company produces
crampons by first stamping steel sheets into the rough design, then assembling the base crampon with
toe and ankle straps. NorCal’s manufacturing plant has 120 hours of stamping time and 80 hours of
assembly time assigned for producing these crampons.
Each set of Denali crampons requires 30 minutes of stamping time and 25 minutes of assembly time,
and each set of Cascade crampons requires 25 minutes of stamping time and 15 minutes of assembly
time. The labor and material cost is $15 and $10 for each set of Denali and Cascade crampons,
respectively. NorCal sells crampons through wholesale distributors for $55 for the Denali model and $45
for the Cascade model. The V.P of Production at NorCal believes that the Denali model, recently
featured in Outside Magazine, could become a bestseller and has determined that at least 60% of the
crampons produced by NorCal should be the Denali model.

How does Advertisment hurt the kids you love?
Marketing to children is unfair: Kids are more vulnerable than adults. Their developing brains are no match for today’s invasive and sophisticated advertising.
It undermines parents: Getting children to nag is a common marketing strategy. And it works! Nagging accounts for one in three trips to fast food restaurants.
It glamorizes greed: The false message of advertising — that what we buy will make us happy — leads to excessive and unsustainable consumption.
It encourages unhealthy eating: How effective is junk food marketing? Very! Preschool children report that food in McDonald’s wrapping tastes better — even when it’s not from McDonald’s!
It glorifies violence: Research links media violence to aggression, desensitization and fear, yet violent movies, TV programs and video games are marketed to kids as young as preschoolers.
It distorts body image: From impossibly thin dolls to bulked up action figures to digitally enhanced fashion models, marketers sell kids on unhealthy physical aspirations.
It sexualizes kids:Even very young children are bombarded with graphic media and marketing that encourage girls to focus primarily on appearance and sex appeal.
Discussion: Which effect in this list had a significant impact on your own childhood or adolescence? In what way? Explain how you experienced this effect and what you can do as a social worker to protect children from this effect in the future.
