With regard to some of the challenges faced by IHR Managers, how can they overcome the fact that SMEs are often the second choice if less qualified employees do not meet the recruitment requirements of large organizations? When we discuss learning challenges, should HRM encourage Boundary Spanning positions and why/why not?

Consider the particle-in-a-box problem in 1D. A particle with mass m is confined to move freely between two hard walls situated at x = 0 and x = L. The potential energy function is given as
(a) Describe the boundary conditions that must be satisfied by the wavefunctions ψ(x) (such as energy eigenfunctions).
(b) Solve the Schr¨odinger’s equation and by using the boundary conditions of part (a) find all energy eigenfunctions, ψn(x), and the corresponding energies, En.
(c) What are the allowed values of the quantum number n above? How did you decide on that?
(d) What is the de Broglie wavelength for the ground state?
(e) Sketch a plot of the lowest 3 levels’ wavefunctions (ψn(x) vs x). Don’t forget to mark the positions of the walls on the graphs.
(f) In a transition between the energy levels above, which transition produces the longest wavelength λ for the emitted photon? What is the corresponding wavelength?

A small gas bubble grows in a large container of a Newtonian fluid. As the bubble grows, it pushes liquid away radially. We can ignore the inertia in the liquid, i.e. Re is small. By solving for the flow in the liquid and using the boundary condition at the bubble/liquid interface, we can determine how the bubble growth rate, i.e. the bubble radius R as a function of time, depends on the pressure in the bubble and liquid parameters.
a) Use the continuity equation to find the form of the radial velocity profile in the liquid.
b) Substitute your result into the r-component of the Stokes equation to show that the pressure in the liquid is constant everywhere! Call that pressure p?.
c) write the boundary condition at the bubble/liquid interface, i.e. at r = R. Hint: ignore surface tension so that the condition at the interface becomes the normal stress ?rr must be continuous there. The normal stress on the bubble side is ?rr = -pb, where pb is the pressure inside the bubble.

Consider the second-order boundary value problem
y′′ +(2x^2 +3)y′ −y =6x, 0≤x ≤1, (4)
y(0) = 1, y(1) = 0.
(a) Rewrite the second-order equation (4) as a system of two
first-order equations
involving variables y and z. [2]
(b) Suppose that yn and zn are approximations to y(xn) and z(xn), respectively, where xn = nh, n = 0,...,N and h = 1/N for some positive integer N. Find the iterative formula when using the modified Euler method to approximate (4) with the modified boundary conditions:
y(0) = 1, y′(0) = z0.
(c) Hence, employ the shooting method, with underlying modified
Euler method, to
find approximations yn, n = 1, . . . , N to problem (4)-(5), when N = 5. [Hint: Notice that differential equation (4) is linear.]

Use Data Set J, U.S. annual Percent Inflation in Prices of Commodities and Services (n=47), on page 536 of your textbook to answer the following questions. Commodities percentage (Commodities %) is the independent, variable and Services percentage (Services%) is the dependent variable. Data are year-to-year percent changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in these two categories. The data file, Inflation, may be found on Canvas under Modules under Chapter 12 Textbook Data Files. Use MINITAB to obtain the simple regression equation, confidence interval, prediction interval, and required graphs. Insert tables and graphs in your report as appropriate. All interpretations should be in terms of the problem (data).
Use Minitab and produce the appropriate output to answer the following questions. Attach the output. Construct a scatter plot. Recalling what scatter plots are used for, write a couple of sentences addressing what you observed from the plot. Be sure to relate your observations to the purpose of using scatter plots in regression. (4 points)
Can we conclude that year-to-year changes in Commodities percentage (Commodities%) helps in predicting year-to year changes in Services percentage (Services%)? Follow and show the 7 steps for hypothesis testing. (12 points)
Find the sample regression equation and interpret the coefficients. Remember your interpretations should be in terms of the problem. (4 points)

Use residual analysis to check the validity of the model and fully explain your findings and conclusions. (6 points)
Estimate with 95% confidence the average year-to-year Services percentage for when all year-to-year Commodities change is 3.0%. Predict with 95% confidence the estimated Services percentage when an individual year’s Commodities change is 3.0%. Write at least one sentence using your confidence interval and at least one sentence using your prediction interval. (8 points)
