In these posts, you will gather data for the United States and for another country of your choosing. You are free to choose the country, but you are likely to gain greater understanding if you choose a country about which you have relatively little knowledge. You should, however, take care to select a country that will allow you to gather all of the needed information for the full set of assignments. [Here again, there are tradeoffs.] If others have posted ahead of you, please note the country that they have selected. Please try not to duplicate countries; the objective is as broad a set of information as possible. In this first installment, please do the following:

The nebular theory is a name for the idea that the Solar System formed from a rotating cloud (nebula) of gas and dust. Is it really possible for science to inform us about things that may have happened billions of years ago? To address this question, test the nebular theory of the formation of the solar system against each of the three hallmarks of science discussed in the posted note Nature of Science in Week 1. Be as detailed as possible in explaining whether nebular theory does or does not satisfy these hallmarks. Use your explanations to decide whether the theory can really tell us about how our solar system formed. Explain and defend your answer.
Hallmarks of Science:
Science seeks explanations for observed phenomena that rely solely on natural causes.
Science progresses through the creation and testing of models of nature that explain the observations as simply as possible.
A scientific model must make testable predictions about natural phenomena that would force us to revise or abandon the model if the predictions do not agree with observations.

Understand the following tools, the steps in creating the tool, and the purpose/usefulness of each: Activity Diagram, Use Case Description, Use Case Diagram, CRC Card, Class Diagram, Sequence Diagrams, Communication Diagram, or Behavioral State Machine. Define it, describe its purpose/usefulness, and list/define the major steps in using the tool. You should be able to illustrate the tool using a scenario.
In depicting a class on a class diagram, each class is shown with 3 parts. Define each part and explain what each part shows. Include an illustration.

A small publishing company decides to use one section of its plant to produce two textbooks called Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. The profit made on each copy is $12 for Microeconomics and $18 Macroeconomics. Each copy of Microeconomics requires 12 minutes for printing and 18 minutes for binding. The corresponding figures for Macroeconomics are 15 and 9 minutes respectively. There are 10 hours available for printing and 10.5 hours available for binding. How many of each should be produced to maximize profit? Please briefly explain the steps to find the solution.

Ida is a freelance artist. She purchased 10 acres of land in 2013. The land was held by Ida as investment property. On July 1, 2018, the land was condemned by the county government to build a new courthouse and jail facility. The county awarded Ida $550,000 for the condemnation of the land. Ida used the full amount of the proceeds to purchase a building that she will use as a production studio for her artwork. The reinvestment occurred within the required replacement period.
Required: Has Ida invested in qualified replacement property for purposes of IRC Section 1033? Explain

a) In a proton at one certain moment, the down quark has a strong color charge of red. What are the color charges of the two up quarks? (Type each color in lowercase with a space between each one.)
(d) In a pi meson at a certain time one quark has a red color.
What is the color of the antiquark at that time?

Prompt: It is common knowledge that staying hydrated is beneficial and that electrolytes replenish the body after exercise. But did you know that it too much water or water containing the wrong substances can be harmful? Apply what you have learned about osmosis and diffusion in Hands On Lab: Cells and Membrane Transport to consider the following scenario:
You are stranded on a desert island. A boat will not be by this area again for 7 days so you need to make smart choices to survive. This sunny island, Puerto Golgi, with an average daily temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit, receives only a few inches of rain per year, so there is very little fresh water available for you to drink.
You have 3 options to choose from and you may only choose one:
1. Drinking all the freshwater from a midweek rainstorm in 1 hour before it evaporates (4 Liters).
2. Drink a small amount of saltwater each of the 7 days
3. Crack open the available coconuts to drink 2L of coconut water each day
Which option will you choose to survive until the boat arrives at the end of day 7 to find you and take you back to the mainland? Each option has beneficial and harmful aspects; there is no perfect choice available.
Through this 2 part discussion with your classmates, you will state your choice, explain how your choice would affect the blood and cells of the body using appropriate and sufficient evidence, and then respond to your classmates posts to convince them why that choice is the optimal one for survival. In other words, you need to know why your choice is the most optimal for the human body and why the other choices would not be.
Remember, no answer is one hundred percent correct so you are not saying that others are wrong, but instead why your choice is more optimal based on evidence. We all want to survive and get each other safely to the mainland.
